What is happening?

THE OLDHAM - FOOTWAYS IN THE OLDHAM TOWN CENTRETEMPORARY CLOSURE ORDER 2025

The Oldham Borough Council intend to make a Temporary Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, the effect of which will be to prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along that part of Footways in the Oldham Town Centre:-

  1. Cheapside pedestrian area - from its westerly junction with West Street to its easterly junction with West Street
  2. Easterly pedestrian footpath area from West Street to George Square
  3. Westerly pedestrian footpath area from West Street to George Square
  4. Manchester Chambers
  5. George Square
  6. Footway from Oldham Police Station to Barn Street Footway closures required in a phased approach for the duration of the Accessible Oldham programme 27th October 2025 to 26th June 2026. Pedestrian diversions will be in place and clearly signed for each phase. The diversions will change as the work progresses

The Order is to be made to allow Town Centre highway works and will be in force for 9 months from 27th October 2025, or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
