What is happening?

(FAIRFAX STREET, CITY CENTRE, BRISTOL) (TEMPORARY
PROHIBITION OF USE BY VEHICLES) (TEMPORARY SUSPENSION
OF ONE WAY TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE is hereby given that the City Council of Bristol in pursuance of the provisions of section 14 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended intend to make an Order the effect of which will be:-

  1. to close, temporarily, to vehicles that length of Fairfax Street which extends from Nelson Street to The Pithay; and
  2. to suspend, temporarily, when appropriate signs are covered, the existing:-
    (a) one way traffic working in a south easterly direction in Fairfax Street, between Nelson Street and The Pithay; and
    (b) reserved bus lane working in a north easterly direction in Broadmead – so as to allow access and egress for works vehicles and give effect to the alternative route.

The Order is required because works are being or are proposed to  be  executed on or near the road and will be operative from
10th November 2025 for a maximum period of eighteen months. However, the restrictions may not be implemented for the whole of  the period, but only as necessitated by the works (which are anticipated to take place overnight between 7.00 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. from 10th November 2025 to 21st November 2025).
ALTERNATIVE ROUTE: Nelson Street, Broadmead, Union Street, The Horsefair, Penn Street, Broad Weir, Newgate, Wine Street, The Pithay
