York, Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures due to Utility and Maintenance Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 09 October 2025 in respect of the location numbered (1). Additionally, the Council made an order on Thursday, 16 October 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (2) (3), (4), (5) & (6). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (7), (8), (9), (10), (11), (12), (13) & (14).

(1) COPPERGATE (CONTINUATION), YORK

This Order continues in force The York (Coppergate) (Temporary Traffic Restriction) Order 2025 (original Order). The effect of which is to continue the prohibition on vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Coppergate, York between its junctions with Piccadilly and Castlegate (closed road) during the period commencing at 1601 hours on Thursday, 09 October 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Friday, 10 October 2025 (works period) or on a date when highway maintenance works being undertaken thereon have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, all on-street parking will be suspended on both sides of Piccadilly between its junctions with Merchantgate and Dennis Street for the works period (restricted road). An alternative route for diverted motorised vehicles will be signed during the works period via Piccadilly, Fawcett Street, Tower Street. A diversion route for cyclists will also be signed on both sides of Piccadilly.

(2) WATER END, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Water End, York between its junctions with Landing Lane and Boroughbridge Road (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Friday, 17 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Sunday, 19 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Boroughbridge Road, Poppleton Road, Holgate Road, Blossom Street, Queen Street, Museum Street, Bootham, Clifton.

(3) OAKLANDS, STRENSALL

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Oaklands, Strensall between its junction with Highlands Avenue onwards (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 20 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(4) MOOR END & MILL LANE, ACASTER MALBIS

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor End & Mill Lane, Acaster Malbis (i) on Moor End between its junction with Mill Lane and a location 130 metres north-east of said junction and (ii) on Mill Lane between its junctions with Moor End and Hauling Lane (closed roads) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Tuesday, 21 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Monday, 03 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Cowper Lane, Broad Lane to Temple Lane, Broad Lane, Intake Lane. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(5) TADCASTER ROAD, COPMANTHORPE

This Order restricts vehicles to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in that length of road on Tadcaster Road, Copmanthorpe between locations 381 metres & 780 metres south-west of its junction with A1036 Junction With A64 (restricted road) during the period when traffic signal renewal works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 22 October 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 14 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(6) TADCASTER ROAD, COPMANTHORPE

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Tadcaster Road, Copmanthorpe between its junction with A1036 Junction With A64 and a location 270 metres north-east of its junction with Top Lane (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000 hrs on Wednesday, 22 October 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Saturday, 29 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2200hrs and 0500hrs each night of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A64, Manor Heath, Hallcroft Lane, Top Lane.

(7) PUBLIC FOOTPATH NO 1/2/20, COPMANTHORPE

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of public right of way on Public Footpath No 1/2/20, Copmanthorpe between its junctions with Fletcher’s Croft and Ploughmans Close and a location approximately 15 metres east of the East Coast Mainline Railway (closed public right of way) during the period when railway engineering works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Friday, 24 October 2025 and ending at 0700hrs on Monday, 10 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the route will only be closed during the following periods only: 24/10/25 – 27/10/25; 31/10/25 – 03/11/25 and 07/11/25 – 10/11/25. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period.

(8) MILLFIELD LANE LEVEL CROSSING, POPPLETON

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding through that length of road at Millfield Lane Level Crossing, Poppleton (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0100hrs on Saturday, 25 October 2025 and ending at 0515hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period. Vehicles will be allowed to use the bus gate between Millfield Lane and Low Poppleton Lane, for ingress and egress, without risk of enforcement action, for the works duration only.

(9) OUTGANG LANE, OSBALDWICK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Outgang Lane, Osbaldwick between locations 47 metres and 116 metres northwest of its junction with Murton Way (closed road) during the period when highway surfacing works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2200hrs on Saturday, 25 October 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Sunday, 26 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(10) PRINCIPAL RISE (ENTRANCE ROAD TO YORK CRAFT), YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Principal Rise (entrance road to York Craft), York between its junction with Tadcaster Road and a location 15 metres west of said junction (closed carriageway) during the period when telecoms works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1700hrs on Sunday, 26 October 2025 and ending at 2300hrs on Sunday, 26 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of travel in Principal Rise between its junction with the entrance road to Craft York and a location 30 metres north-east of said junction is reversed to allow vehicles to travel in a south-westerly direction when the closure is put into effect. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via College Court.

(11) ALBEMARLE ROAD, SCARCROFT HILL & TELFORD TERRACE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Albemarle Road, York (i) on Albemarle Road between its junctions with Brunswick Street and The Mount and (ii) on Scarcroft Hill between its junction with Albemarle Road and a location 35 metres north-east of said junction and (iii) on Telford Terrace between its junction with Albemarle Road and a location 30 metres east of said junction (closed roads) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 04 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1700hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Scarcroft Road, Campleshon Road, Bishopthorpe Road. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(12) ST. THOMAS CLOSE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on St. Thomas Close, York between its junction with Thirkleby Way and a location 53 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1730hrs each day of the works period. Access for residents and emergency vehicles will be maintained.

(13) HAWTHORN GROVE, GLEN ROAD & HAWTHORN STREET, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in those lengths of road on Hawthorn Grove, Glen Road & Hawthorn Street, York (i) from the north-eastern carriageway of Hawthorn Grove into Hawthorn Street and Glen Road and (ii) from Hawthorn Street into Hawthorn Grove and (iii) from Glen Road into Hawthorn Grove (restricted roads) during the period when gas network works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Eboracum Way, Heworth Green, Mill Street.

(14) ANTHEA DRIVE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Anthea Drive, York between its junctions with New Lane and Sherwood Grove (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 27 October 2025 and ending at 1630hrs on Friday, 21 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0800hrs and 1800hrs each day of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via New Road, Highthorn Road, Maythorn Road.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
