NATIONAL HIGHWAYS
A27 TRUNK ROAD – YAPTON LANE
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A27 Trunk Road in the County of West Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road by contractors working on behalf of Vistry Homes.
The effect of the Order would be to:-
1) authorise the overnight closure of both carriageways of the A27 between
Fontwell East Roundabout (A29) and Ford Roundabout (A284);
2) impose a 24-hour 50mph restriction on;
a) the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between a point approximately 90 metres west of the centreline of Mill Road and a point approximately 75 metres east of the centreline of Shellbridge Road; and b) the westbound carriageway of the A27 between points approximately 265 metres east and approximately 268 metres west of the centreline of Yapton Lane;
3) impose a 24-hour ban on turning right:-
a) from the eastbound carriageway of the A27 into Yapton Lane;
b) from the westbound carriageway of the A27 into Shellbridge Road; and
c) the use of the dedicated right hand turn lanes in either direction for the purpose thereof.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake carriageway alterations and all associated works.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 8 weeks starting on Sunday 2nd November 2025. The full overnight closures would occur between 20:00 and 06:00 hours, and required only for the purpose of setting up and
removing the traffic management, and resurfacing at the end of the project. Please consult National Highways website for details of all closures.
The Order would come into force on 1st November 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.
Traffic affected by the overnight closures would be diverted using the A29 and A284 in either direction. Traffic affected by the right turn bans would be directed to proceed to Fontwell East Roundabout or Ford Roundabout and return as appropriate.
The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
