ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 – SECTIONS 14(1) AND 15(8)

LONDON BOROUGH OF MERTON

(MANSHIP ROAD, SANDY LANE AND THE DRIFTWAY)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION OF TRAFFIC)

ORDER 2025

1. The Council of the London Borough of Merton hereby give notice that because of major gas works in Streatham Road, they have made an Order, the effect of which will be to continue in force the provisions of a temporary notice issued under section 14(2) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 temporarily restricting traffic in Manship Road, Sandy Lane and The Driftway.

2. During the works, no person will cause or permit any vehicle to:-

(a) enter or proceed in:-

(i) Manship Road, from its junction with Streatham Road, north-westward for a distance of 5 metres; or

(ii) Sandy Lane, from its junction with Streatham Road, south-eastward for a distance of 5 metres;

(b) wait, including for purpose of loading or unloading any vehicle, in The Driftway, from its junction with Streatham Road south-eastward for its entire length.

3. The restrictions will only apply during such times and to such extent as will from time to time be indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

4. Any designated parking place situated in the road or length of road specified in sub-paragraph 2(b) above shall be suspended for the duration of the works when and where appropriate traffic signs are displayed.

5. Vehicular traffic affected by the road closures should proceed as indicated by traffic signs.

6. Nothing in the Order will apply:-

(a) to anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a police community support officer in uniform; or

(b) to any person or vehicle engaged in the execution of the said works; or

(c) to the police, fire brigade or ambulance services, subject to site conditions; or

(d) so as to prevent vehicular access to premises in or adjacent to the length of road specified in paragraph 2(a) above insofar as access is reasonably practicable without interference with works.

7. Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any waiting restriction imposed by the Order may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986.

8. The Order will come into operation on Friday 10th October 2025 and it is anticipated that the works will be completed on Friday 12th December 2025. However, the Order will remain in force for a maximum period of 3 months should further works be required.
