Croydon - Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions

What is happening?

2. Whilst the said works are taking place:

a) Purley Downs Road will be closed at its junction with Court Hill, outside No. 120 Purley Downs Road.

b) The southern (even-numbered side) footway will be closed to pedestrians outside No. 120 Purley Downs Road.

3. During the closure, vehicular traffic will be diverted as detailed below. Pedestrians will be diverted to the opposite footway.

• Purley Downs Road, North Down, Shaw Crescent, Court Hill, and vice versa.

4. The Order will come into operation on 27 October 2025, and it is anticipated that the work will be completed within approximately four days. However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further work be required.

5. The restriction shall not apply in respect of:

(a) A vehicle involved in the said work.

(b) A vehicle being used for fire brigade, ambulance, or police purposes, or the purposes of a statutory undertaker in an emergency, such as the loss of supplies of gas, electricity or water to premises in the area, which necessitates the bringing of vehicles into a section of road to which the order applies.

(c) Anything done with the permission of a police constable in uniform or a Civil Enforcement Officer.

6. The restriction will only apply during such times and to such an extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

THE ROAD TRAFFIC

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTIONS) ACT 1991

TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC & PARKING,

WOODSIDE GREEN, SOUTH NORWOOD

1. Croydon Council HEREBY GIVE NOTICE that to facilitate district meter repair works, they intend to make an Order the effect of which would be to temporarily restrict traffic and parking in Woodside Green, South Norwood.

2. Whilst the said works are taking place:

a) Woodside Green (fronting property Nos. 59 to 97) will be closed at its junction with Birchanger Road.

b) One-way working in Woodside Green (fronting property Nos. 59 to 97) will be suspended and two-way traffic will apply.

c) Parking will be suspended on both sides of Woodside Green (fronting property Nos. 59 to 97) and waiting and loading restrictions will apply at any time.

3. During the closure the diversion route for traffic will be via Birchanger Road, Woodside Green and reversed.

4. The Order will come into operation on the 28 October 2025, and it is anticipated that the works will be completed on 31 October 2025. However, the Order will remain in force for 18 months to be reintroduced should further works be required. The prohibitions will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

LONDON BOROUGH OF CROYDON

PUBLIC PATH EXTINGUISHMENT ORDER 2025

PUBLIC FOOTPATH 935 (WELLESLEY ROAD SUBWAY)

THE LONDON BOROUGH OF CROYDON ACTING IN ITS CAPACITY AS A LOCAL HIGHWAY AUTHORITY hereby gives notice of the proposal to make an Order under section 258 of the above Act authorising the extinguishment of public footpath 935 (Wellesley Road subway) shown edged in red and line hatched which runs from the west side of Wellesley Road, adjacent to Whitgift Centre, to the east side of Wellesley Road, outside Leonardo Hotel 26 Wellesley Road, as shown on Order plan TCHRS-FP935-001. The Public Footpath 935 will be in-filled as part of the Wellesley Road surface-level toucan crossing works between Whitgift Centre and Lansdowne Road.

COPIES OF THE DRAFT ORDER AND RELEVANT ORDER PLANS are available for inspection at all reasonable hours at the Council’s Access Croydon Reception Desk, Ground Floor, Bernard Weatherill House, 8 Mint Walk, Croydon, CR0 1EA in the 28 days commencing Thursday 9 October 2025 or may be obtained free of charge, on request to London Borough of Croydon (quoting reference TCHRS-FP935-001) at the above address.

ANY REPRESENTATIONS OR OBJECTIONS to the Order must be made in writing within the period of 28 days commencing Thursday 9 October 2025 and should be sent to the Director of Planning & Sustainable Regeneration, London Borough of Croydon, Bernard Weatherill House, 8 Mint Walk, Croydon, CR0 1EA, quoting the reference ‘Wellesley Road Subway Footpath 935 Extinguishment Order’. Please ensure that your correspondence arrives to the Council before Wednesday 5 November 2025, stating the grounds on which the representations and objections are made.

If no such representations or objections are duly made or if any that are made are withdrawn, the London Borough of Croydon may confirm the Order as an unopposed Order. If the Order is sent to the Secretary of State for Environment Food and Rural Affairs for confirmation any representations or objections which have not been withdrawn will be sent with the Order.

DESCRIPTION OF HIGHWAY (FOOTPATH 935) TO BE EXTINGUISHED

The extent of highway to be stopped up and extinguished is Public Footpath 935 located on the Council of the London Borough of Croydon forming the subway and associated ramps and stairs which run between Whitgift Centre and Lansdowne Road.Way Sheet TQ 36 NW and referenced in the Council of the London Borough of Croydon Definitive Statement of Public Rights of Way (PRoW), with the following termini: Subway from outside entrance to Whitgift Centre across Wellesley Road to opposite YMCA and Prudential House.
