What is happening?
THE BOROUGH OF BLACKPOOL
MULTIVERSITY VARIOUS TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Blackpool Borough Council intend not less than seven days from the date of this Notice, to make the above Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and all other enabling powers to demolish Phase 2 properties for the Multiversity project. The effect of the Order will be to:
(a) Prohibit any vehicle from entering or proceeding in a north easterly direction along the length of Charles Street from its junction with Cookson Street and its junction with the western boundary of 6 Charles Street.
(b) Prohibit any vehicle from entering or proceeding in any direction along the length of the alleyway to the rear of Cookson Street from its junction with George Street to its junction with Milbourne Street.
(c) Prohibit all pedestrians from entering or proceeding in any direction along the length of the footways on the eastern side of Cookson Street between its junction with Milbourne Street and its junction with George Street.
(d) Prohibit all pedestrians from entering or proceeding in any direction along the length of the footways on the southern side of George Street between its junction with Cookson Street and its junction with Grosvenor Street.
(e) Prohibit all pedestrians from entering or proceeding in any direction along the length of the footways on the western side of Grosvenor Street between its junction with George Street and its junction with Milbourne Street.
(f) Prohibit all pedestrians from entering or proceeding in any direction along the length of the footways on the northern side of Milbourne Street between its junction with Grosvenor Street and its junction with Cookson Street.
NB. As this is a demolition site with no occupied properties pedestrian and vehicular access will be prohibited except in relation to site personnel and vehicles. All diversion routes will be clearly signed and maintained on site. The proposed Order will commence on 27th October 2025 and continue in force for eighteen months or until the sooner completion of the aforesaid works. It is anticipated that the works will take 18 months.
