Colchester - Multiple Traffic Notices, Temporary Road Closures
What is happening?
Essex County Council
The works are scheduled to commence after 2nd October 2025, as stated on a valid permit. The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the road.
The closures are required for the safety of the public and workforce while gas main replacement works are undertaken by Cadent.
The Order came into effect on 2nd October 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.

Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council has made the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
To temporarily close those lengths of road in the City of Colchester, as detailed in the Schedule.
To temporarily suspend the 7.5T weight restriction on that length of The Avenue/The Cross/Colchester Road, Wivenhoe, from the junction of Boundary Road to the junction of Belle Vue Road as cited in the “The Colchester Borough (Rectory Road Etc., Wivenhoe) (Weight Restriction) Order, 1984” for the duration of the closures only.

Effect of the order:
To temporarily close those lengths of road in the City of Colchester as specified in the schedule.
A temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction will be introduced on both sides of carriageway on the above lengths of road for the duration of the closures to facilitate the works. Signs will be installed indicating when the No Waiting restriction will be in force.
To temporarily suspend the bus lane in that length of High Street, Colchester in the City of Colchester from its junction with Queen Street for a distance of approximately 50m in a north westerly direction as cited in “The Essex County Council (High Street, North Hill & Middleborough, Colchester) (Bus Lane) Order 2014” for the duration of the above closures.
“The Essex County Council (Colchester City) (Prohibition of Waiting, Loading and Stopping) and (On Street Parking Places) (Civil Enforcement Area) Consolidation Order 2019” will be temporarily amended to include the temporary ‘No Waiting, No Loading and No Stopping’ restriction and suspend any existing parking and waiting restrictions on the above lengths of road only. All other restrictions and exemptions contained in the aforementioned Order and Amendments to that Order shall remain in force.
The works being undertaken will take place within an 18-month period from 2nd October 2025, exact dates will be specified on one.network. The roads will be closed to facilitate each phase of works and then re-opened to the public. Access will be maintained for emergency services. Diversion routes will be signed at each location and residents will be informed of the dates of each phase via letter/leaflet drop and advanced warning signs on the roads.

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that the Essex County Council intends, not less than seven days from the date of this notice, to make the above Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
Effect of the order:
To temporarily close that length of Workhouse Hill, Boxted in the City of Colchester, from a point approximately 220m south east of its junction with Green Lane for a distance of approximately 30m in a south easterly direction. The closure is scheduled to commence on 20th October 2025 for 3 days, or where stated on a valid permit (AD03166316715 – Anglian Water). The scheduled dates may vary for these works with appropriate signs showing and/or displayed on one.network. The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce while stoptap replacement works are undertaken by Anglian Water.
An alternative route is available via Green Lane, Boxted Church Road, Holly Lane, Queens Head Road and vice versa.
The Order came into effect on 2nd October 2025 and may continue in force for 18 months or until the works have been completed, whichever is the earlier.
