Newcastle Road, Temporary Road & Footway Closure Due To Footbridge Removal Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (A167 Newcastle Road, Crossgate Moor, Durham) (Temporary Road and Footway Closure) Order 2025
The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular and pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following length of road and footway: a 385 metre length of A167 Newcastle Road, between its junctions with A690 at Nevilles Cross crossroads and St Bede Close, Durham to enable footbridge removal works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to vehicular traffic from the southern side of the closure, from A690 generally easterly to the roundabout junction with A691 Framwellgate Peth, then north westerly on A691 Framwellgate Peth and Southfield Way to A167 Sniperley Roundabout, leading to the northern side of the closure and vice versa.
Pedestrians will be marshalled though the site during the works. The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence from 8pm on Monday 27/10/2025 and are anticipated to be completed in 5 nights, until 6am each following morning. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
