Pelton Fell Road, Temporary Footpath Closure Due To Stability Repair Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham(Public Rights of Way, Footpath No. 33 off Pelton Fell Road, Chester-le-Street Parish) (Temporary Footpath Closure) Order No.2 2025

The Council on 3/10/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following length of footpath: 410metres (full-length) of Footpath No. 33 that extends easterly from its junction with Pelton Fell Road to North Burns rail bridge, Chester le Street to enable land stability repair works to be undertaken. An alternative route will be available to pedestrian traffic from the western side of the closure, easterly via the associated footway of Pelton Fell Road toward Market Place and to the North Burns footpath, leading to the eastern side of the closure and vice versa. The maximum duration of the Order is 6 months. The closure is required from 14/10/2025 and for the duration of the works, anticipated to be up to 6 months. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
