A23 TRUNK ROAD (PYECOMBE) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A23 Trunk Road in the County of West Sussex, under Section 16A(2)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because an event is proposed to be held on the road. The effect of the Order would be to:-
- Impose:
- an 11-hour 50mph speed restriction on the southbound carriageway of the A23 between points approximately 165 metres and 465 metres south of the South Downs Way overbridge (at Pyecombe);
- an 11-hour 40mph speed restriction on:-
- the southbound carriageway of the A23 between a point approximately 465 metres south of the South Downs Way overbridge and a point approximately 178 metres south of the Braypool Lane footbridge (the commencement of the permanent 50mph); and
- the southbound carriageway of the A273 between a point approximately 75 metres south of the cross-over junction leading to Pyecombe Services and its merge with the A23;
- authorise the daytime closure of the slip road leading from the northbound carriageway of the A23 at Pyecombe Interchange (A273);
- authorise the daytime closure of both lay-bys adjacent to the carriageway described in 1.(b)(i) above.. These measures would be in the interests of road safety during the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.
It is expected that the event would last for 1 day on Sunday 2nd November 2025. The daytime closures would take place between 06:00 and 21:00 (maximum period). The Order would come into force on 1st November 2025 and have a maximum duration of three days. Traffic affected by the slip road closure and destined beyond Pyecombe village on the A273 would be diverted using the A23 northbound to Muddleswood Interchange (B2117) and then take the B2117, B2116 and the A273. Traffic for Pyecombe village only would proceed to Dale Hill Interchange (A281) and return. Access to the side road adjoining the slip road serving local properties would be allowed under gated control. The temporary speed limit and closures would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are operation during the event period.
