York, Multiple Roads, Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an Order on Thursday, 09 October 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9) & (10). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (11), (12), (13), (14) & (15).

(1) HESSAY LEVEL CROSSING, HESSAY

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Hessay Level Crossing, New Road, Hessay (closed road) during the period when railway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2315hrs on Saturday, 11 October 2025 and ending at 0625hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2315hrs and 0625hrs each night of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Main Street, Atterwith Lane, Marston Lane & A59.

(2) HAXBY MOOR ROAD, STRENSALL

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Haxby Moor Road, Strensall between its junction with Forest Lane and a location 250 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 and ending at 1530hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via West End, York Road, Strensall Road, Towthorpe Road, Station Road, Usher Lane, Cross Moor Lane.

(3) WALMGATE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Walmgate, York between its junctions with Hope Street and Margaret Street (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0400hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Foss Islands Road, Peasholme Green, The Stonebow, Pavement, Piccadilly, Merchantgate.

(4) BARR LANE, STOCKTON ON THE FOREST

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Barr Lane, Stockton On The Forest between its junction with the A64 Malton Road and a location 60 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 17 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A64 Malton Road, Hopgrove Lane South, Stockton Lane.

(5) GOODRAMGATE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Goodramgate, York between the projected south-eastern boundaries of property no’s 70 & 79 (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 24 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Goodramgate is suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said road. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Lord Mayors Walk, Gillygate, St Leonards Place, Blake Street, Davygate, Church Street.

(6) NEWGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Newgate, York between its junction with Patrick Pool and a location 14 metres south-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Tuesday, 14 October 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 17 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Deliveries will be assisted by marshal between 0700hrs and 1300hrs and also between 1700hrs & 2230hrs. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Silver Street, Church Street, Kings Square.

(7) HEWORTH ROAD, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Heworth Road, York between the projected south-eastern boundary of property no’s 75 and 64 (closed road) during the period when water infrastructure works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 and ending at 1430hrs on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Heworth Green, Eboracum Way, Layerthorpe, Hawthorne Terrace, East Parade.

(8) ALNESS DRIVE & GIRVAN CLOSE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Alness Drive & Girvan Close, York (1) on Alness Drive between the projected northern boundaries of property no’s 25 & 29 and (ii) on Girvan Close between its junction with Alness Drive and a location 16 metres east of said junction (closed road) during the period when water infrastructure works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0930hrs on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 and ending at 1430hrs on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Alness Drive, Girvan Close, Acomb Drive, Acomb Wood Drive.

(9) NORTH LANE, HUNTINGTON, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on North Lane, Huntington, York between its junction with A64 (Malton Road) and a location 20 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000hrs on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 and ending at 0600hrs on Thursday, 16 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A1237, A64. Access for emergency vehicles and resident’s vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.

(10) FRONT STREET, ACOMB, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of carriageway on Front Street, Acomb, York between its roundabout controlled junction with Link Road and a location 30 metres south-west of said junction (closed carriageway) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 15 October 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 17 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via York Road, The Green, Ridgeway, Askham Lane.

(11) WATER END, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Water End, York between its junctions with Landing Lane and Broughbridge Road (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Friday, 17 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Sunday, 19 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Broughbridge Road, Poppleton Road, Holgate Road, Blossom Street, Queen Street, Micklegate, Station Rise, York.

(12) OAKLANDS, STRENSALL

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Oaklands, Strensall between its junction with Highlands Avenue and a location 60 metres north-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Monday, 20 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 07 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Highlands Avenue, Oaklands, Strensall Road, York.

(13) MOOR END & MILL LANE, ACASTER MALBIS

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Moor End & Mill Lane, Acaster Malbis (i) on Moor End between its junction with Mill Lane and a location 130 metres north-east of said junction (closed road) and (ii) on Mill Lane between its junction with Moor End and Hauling Lane (closed roads) during the period when power grid works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Tuesday, 21 October 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Monday, 03 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Cowper Lane, Broad Lane to Temple Lane, Broad Lane, Intake Lane. Access for residents & emergency services will be maintained throughout the works period.

(14) TADCASTER ROAD, COPMANTHORPE

This Order will restrict vehicles to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in that length of road on Tadcaster Road, Copmanthorpe between locations 381 metres & 780 metres south-west of its junction with A1036 Junction With A64 (restricted road) during the period when traffic signal renewal works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Wednesday, 22 October 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 14 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(15) TADCASTER ROAD, COPMANTHORPE

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Tadcaster Road, Copmanthorpe between its junction with A1036 Junction With A64 and a location 270 metres north-east of its junction with Tadcaster Road (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2000 hrs on Wednesday, 26 November 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Saturday, 29 November 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 2200hrs and 0500hrs during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A64, Manor Heath, Hallcroft Lane, Top Lane. Access to premises will be maintained throughout the works period but access is not permitted by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibition.
