What is happening?
A23 TRUNK ROAD (LONDON ROAD, GATWICK)
TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS
Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the A23 Trunk Road in the County of West Sussex, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road by contractors working on behalf of Landbuild Limited.
The effect of the Order would be to authorise the overnight closure of:-
a) the westbound carriageway of the A23 between the exit slip road leading to Airport Way Roundabout West and Longbridge roundabout (A217); and
b) the road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A23 from Airport Way Roundabout West.
These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake bridge works over the Mole River including concrete barrier relocation.
It is expected that the work would last for approximately 2 weeks starting on or after Sunday 2nd November 2025. The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 ( maximum period ).
The Order would come into force on 31st October 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the work is complete.
Motorway-class traffic affected by the closures would be diverted eastbound on Airport Way and the M23 Spur, southbound on the M23 to Junction 10, westbound on the A2011 to Hazelwick Roundabout and return to the B2036, northbound on the B2036, and southbound on the A23. NonMotorway traffic would go round Gatwick Airport being pre-diverted westbound at Gatwick Road Roundabout and by using London Road, Old Brighton Road South, Charlwood Road, Lowfield Heath Road, Horley Road, and Povey Cross Road. The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
