A56 Trunk Road, Rossendale & Hyndburn - Traffic Ban in Haslingden Bypass Laybys

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTION 14

THE A56 TRUNK ROAD 

(HASLINGDEN BYPASS LAYBYS)

(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 09346363) intends to make an Order on the A56 Trunk Road, in the Boroughs of Rossendale and Hyndburn, in the County of Lancashire, to enable resurfacing, renewal of road markings and road studs, cutting of detector loop works and other general maintenance; to be carried out in safety.

The Order will ban all traffic from the following laybys adjacent to the A56 Trunk Road:

i.    the layby located 180 metres southwest of the Rising Bridge Roundabout, on the northbound carriageway;

ii.    the layby located 600 metres north of the Rising Bridge Roundabout, on the southbound carriageway;

iii.   the layby located 2,290 metres north of the Rising Bridge Roundabout, on the southbound carriageway;

iv.   the layby located 1,670 metres south of the point at which the entry slip road from the A679 joins the carriageway (at Huncoat Junction), on the southbound carriageway.

Prohibitions i. – iv. are expected to be in place during a continuous period, subject to traffic signs, starting at 21:00 on Sunday 26 October 2025 and ending at 05:00 on Friday 30 January 2026.

However, works may start and continue during subsequent continuous periods or until completed. The prohibitions will not apply to emergency services, works, traffic officer or winter maintenance vehicles, and will only apply during such times and to such extent as shall, from time to time, be indicated by traffic signs.
