What is happening?
THE KENT COUNTY COUNCIL A249 TRUNK ROAD (GROVEHURST SLIP ROADS)
(SIDE ROADS) ORDER 2025
The Highways Act 1980
Notice is hereby given that The Kent County Council has made on 1 October 2025 THE KENT COUNTY COUNCIL A249 TRUNK ROAD (GROVEHURST SLIP ROADS) (SIDE ROADS) ORDER 2025 under Section 14 of the Highways Act 1980. It is about to submit this order to the Secretary of State for Transport for confirmation and if confirmed, the order will authorise Kent County Council to stop up highways.
All on or in the vicinity of the route of the A249 Trunk Road in connection with the A249 Trunk Road Grovehurst Road and Swale Way junction improvement scheme.
A copy of the order and the map referred to can be seen from 9 October 2025 at all reasonable hours on week days at the offices of Kent County Council, Sessions House, County Hall, Maidstone, ME14 1XQ and at the offices of Swale Borough Council, Swale House, East Street, Sittingbourne, Kent ME10 3HT. A copy has also been deposited at the offices of National Highways, 5 Eclipse Park, Maidstone, Kent ME14 5LH.

Any objections to the order must be made in writing to the Secretary of State, National Transport Casework Team, Tyneside House, Skinnerburn Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE4 7AR or by email to nationalcasework@dft.gov.uk before 31 October 2025 and should state the title of the order, the grounds of objection and the objector’s address and interest in the land.
In submitting an objection it should be noted that your personal data and correspondence will be passed by the Secretary of State to the County Council to enable your objection to be considered. Where the Order becomes the subject of Public Inquiry Procedures, all correspondence is copied to the Inspector conducting the Inquiry and will be kept in the Public Inquiry library, where it is publicly available. If you do not wish your personal data to be forwarded, please state your reasons when submitting your objection and the Secretary of State will copy your representations, with your name and address removed, to the Council and if there is to be a Public Local Inquiry they will be seen by the Inspector who may give them less weight as a result.
