What is happening?

WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL

(VARIOUS ROADS IN THE BARROW LOCALITY) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF ALL TRAFFIC)

 NO.17) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Westmorland and Furness Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit all traffic (i.e. vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists), from proceeding along the lengths of road specified in the attached schedule. Suitable diversion routes will be indicated on site by the display of relevant traffic signs as and when the temporary closures are in force.

The Order will come into operation on 13th October 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the works are only likely to be required for 5 weeks and only as and when the relevant traffic signs are displayed.

EXTENT OF RESTRICTIONS AND ALTERNATIVE ROUTES

  1. Victoria Road, Barrow in Furness – Start Date 13th October 2025 – Approx duration 2 weeks (Ref:TTROW/14669)

    From its junction with Warwick Street, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 50m.

    There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.

  2. Warwick Street, Barrow in Furness – Start Date 20th October 2025 - Approx. duration 5 weeks (Ref:TTROWW/14670)

    Alternative Route: via Victoria Road, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 395m.

    Alternative Route: via Abbey Road, Victoria Avenue, Victoria Road, Settle Street and Ainslie Street.

  3. Rear of Ainslie Street, Barrow in Furness – Start Date 17th November 2025 - Approx. duration 2 weeks (Ref:TTROW/14671)

    From its junction with Settle Street, extending in a south easterly direction for a distance of approx. 115m.

    Alternative Route: via Settle Street, Ainslie Street and Warwick Street.

  4. Cotswold Crescent, Barrow in Furness – Start Date 19th January 2026 - Approx. duration 2 weeks (Ref:TTROW/15367)

    From its junction with Ainslie Street, extending in a south westerly direction for a distance of approx. 90m.

    There is no suitable alternative route available for vehicles.

  5. Thwaite Lane, Dalton in Furness – Start Date 21st October 2025 - Approx. duration 4 days (Ref:TTROW/15759)

    From its junction with Hawthwaite Lane, extending in a southerly direction for a distance of approx. 70m.

    Alternative Route: via St Helen’s Hill, Romney Avenue, Skelgate, Abbey Road, Park Road the unrestricted section of Thwaite Flat Lane.
