Wigton, Temporary Road Closures Due To Utility Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (U2014 OUGHTERBY, U2016 WIGGONBY AND C2048 BRACKENTHWAITE, NEAR WIGTON) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable utility works to be carried out (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road:

  1. U2014 Oughterby, from a point approx. 550m south of its junction with the U2012, extending a southerly direction to its junction with the U2016; and

  2. U2016 Wiggonby, from its junction with the U2014, extending in an easterly then southerly direction to its junction with the C2051.

Alternative Route for 1 and 2 above: via the unrestricted section of the U2014, U2012, U2013 Little Bampton and Aikton and C2051 Wiggonby.

Duration: From 13 October 2025 for approx. 15 weeks (Ref: TTROC/16197)

3. C2048, Brackenthwaite, near Wigton, from its junction with the A595, extending in a north south easterly direction for approx. 400m.

Alternative Route: via the unrestricted section of the C2048, U2147, B5305 and A595.

Duration: From 17 November 2025 for approx. 19 days (Ref: TTROC/16124)

A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times

The Order will come into operation on 13 October 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restrictions will only be required as detailed above, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
