What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (BOROUGH STREET, BUSH BROW AND ENGLISH DAMSIDE, CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable Network Rail to carry out inspection works (“the Works”), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit any vehicle from proceeding along the following sections of road in Carlisle:
English Damside, from its junction with Backhouses Walk to a point where it joins Borough Street; and
Borough Street, from the point where it joins English Damside to a point where it joins Court Square Brow; and
Bush Brow, from its junction with Borough Street, extending in a northerly direction for approx. 20m; and
Link Road between Viaduct Estate Road and English Damside, which runs beneath the railway line.
A way for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times.
Suitable alternative routes for vehicles will be signed and available along the surrounding roads and streets, whilst taking into consideration any one-way restrictions.

The Order will come into operation on 12 October 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months.
However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 1 night between 2200 hours on Sunday 12 October 2025 to 0600 on Monday 13 October 2025, and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
