(Purley Way, Stafford Road And Various Side Roads, London Borough of Croydon)

(Temporary Prohibition of Traffic, Stopping and Banned Turn) Order 2025

1. Transport for London in consultation with the London Borough of Croydon hereby gives notice that it intends to make the above named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

2. The purpose of the Order is to enable resurfacing works to take place on the A23 Purley Way.

3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:

(1) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping in a northerly direction on Purley Way between its junctions with Highfield Road and Stafford Road/Denning Avenue, local access will be maintained between its junctions with Highfield Road and the entrance to Airport House, Purley Way & The Colonnades Shopping Centre, No 618 Purley Way;

(2) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping in a southerly direction on Purley Way between its junctions with Stafford Road/Denning Avenue and Waddon Way;

(3) entering, exiting or proceeding on Propeller Crescent northern arm between its junction with Purley Way and the extended common boundary of No. 453 Purley Way & No. 2 Propeller Crescent;

(4) entering, exiting or proceeding into the access road for the entrance of Unit 5b, Wing Yip Centre, No. 544 Purley Way at its junction with Purley Way;

(5) entering, exiting or proceeding on Queensway between its junctions with Purley Way and the mini roundabout leading to the access road for Nos. 596 to 604 Purley Way;

(6) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on Coldharbour Road between its junction with Purley Way and the extend common boundary of No. 539 Purley Way & No. 117 Coldharbour Road;

(7) entering, exiting, proceeding or stopping on Foss Avenue between its junction with Purley Way and the extend common boundary of No. 551 Purley Way & No. 82 Foss Avenue;

(8) stopping on Stafford Road southbound carriageway between its junctions with Epsom Road and Denning Avenue;

(9) stopping on Denning Avenue between its junction with Stafford Road and the extended eastern building line of Nos. 75 to 77 Denning Avenue;

(10) turning right from Coldharbour Road onto Purley Way;

The Order will also:

(11) allow traffic to right from Propeller Crescent northern arm and southern arm onto Purley Way;

(12) allow all vehicles to use the Purley Way northbound bus lane between its junctions with Queensway and the extended common boundary of Nos. 522-526 and 528-530 Purley Way.

Marshalls will be available to assist with local access and pedestrians.

Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.

The Order will be effective at certain times between 12th October 2025 and 24th January 2026, every night 9:00 PM until 5:00 AM or when the works have been completed, whichever is the sooner. The prohibitions will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs. 

4. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:

(1) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

(2) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

5. At such times as the prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs. For Purley Way northbound closure Diversion Route A via Foxley Lane, Russell Hill Road, Purley Road/Brighton Road roundabout, Brighton Road (northbound), Southbridge Road, Davenant Road, Duppas Hill Road and Stafford Road to normal route of travel or via Purley Way southbound to Diversion Route A above. For Purley Way southbound closure via Diversion Route A above in reverse or via Croydon Road, Manor Road, Woodcote Road and Foxley Lane to normal route of travel. For traffic wanting Queensway via Princes Way, Kings Way and Stafford Road to normal route of travel or in reverse.
