A46 Trunk Road (Stivichall to Kenilworth, Warwickshire) - Temporary Speed Limit & Closure

What is happening?

ROAD TRAFFIC REGULATION ACT 1984 - SECTIONS 14(1)(a), 15(2) AND PARAGRAPH 27(1)  SCHEDULE  9

THE A46 TRUNK ROAD (STIVICHALL TO KENILWORTH, WARWICKSHIRE)

(TEMPORARY RESTRICTION AND PROHIBITION OF TRAFFIC) (NO.2) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that National Highways Limited (Company No. 9346363) intends to revoke an existing Order and make a new Order on the A46 Trunk Road in the County of Warwickshire, to enable the improvement works at Stoneleigh Road junction, HS2 works, and all associated works and maintenance works to be carried out.

The effect of the Order, will be to, at different times, –

(1)  impose a speed restriction of 50 miles per hour on –

(a)  the northbound carriageway of the A46 from a point 32 metres northeast of the centreline of Rocky Lane overbridge, at Kenilworth, to a point 120 metres southwest of the tip of the nosing at its junction with the entry slip road leading from Stoneleigh Road;

(b)  the southbound carriageway of the A46 from a point 50 metres southwest of the centreline of Mill Hill underbridge, near Baginton, to a point 33 metres northeast of the centreline of Crewe Lane underbridge, at Kenilworth;

(c)  any slip road leading to or from the A46, to or from the Stoneleigh Road junction, at Stoneleigh;

(2)  close –

(a)  the northbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with the exit slip road leading to the roundabout junction with the A452, at Kenilworth, to its junction with the entry slip leading from the A46 / A45/A444 Stivichall Interchange;

(b)  the southbound carriageway of the A46 from its junction with the exit slip road leading to Stivichall Interchange, to its junction with the entry slip road leading from the roundabout junction with the A452, at Kenilworth;

(c)  any slip road leading to or from the lengths of the A46 described in (2) (a) and (b) above;

(d)  any layby leading to or from the lengths of the A46 described in (2) (a) and (b) above;

(3)  prohibit any vehicles from turning right from the slip road leading from the northbound carriageway of the A46 onto Stoneleigh Road. The work is expected to continue for approximately 18 months. The carriageway closures will be carried out overnight between 20:00 hours and 06:00 hours. The speed restriction will be in operation, for twenty-four hours per day, for the duration of the works. The Order will come into force on 1 November 2025 and will remain in force for the duration of  the work.

Vehicles being used for police, fire and rescue authority or ambulance purposes will be exempt from the speed restriction and closures. Vehicles being used for special forces purposes will be exempt from the speed restriction, and vehicles being used in connection with the works or for winter maintenance purposes will be exempt from the closures.

Diversion routes using the A46, the M6, the  M42 and the M40 and vice versa will be signed.
