Canterbury, Multiple Temporary Traffic Regulation Notices

What is happening?

Highways

 

Kent County Council, acting in exercise of its powers under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, makes or intends to make the following Orders.

 

CANTERBURY AREA

 

A299 Thanet Way (Yorkletts, Whitstable, Chestfield, Herne Bay, Herne & Broomfield) & Westbound Slip Onto A299 From Wraik Hill Roundabout, Whitstable. (TEMPORARY 50 MPH SPEED RESTRICTION) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

For safety reasons due to carriageway undulations, Kent County Council has made an Order to impose a temporary mandatory 50 mph speed restriction on part of A299 Thanet Way (Yorkletts, Whitstable, Chestfield, Herne Bay, Herne & Broomfield) & Westbound Slip Onto A299 From Wraik Hill Roundabout, Whitstable from 10th October 2025, with estimated completion by 31st March 2026, or until the works have been completed.

The temporary 50 mph speed restriction will be imposed between A299 Thanet Way, Yorkletts and Roman Galley, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

 

Adisham Road, Bekesbourne, CT4 5EY (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Adisham Road, Bekesbourne from 24th October 2025, for up to one day between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed from the junction with Aerodrome Road, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Adisham Road, Chalkpit Hill, School Lane, Station Road, Bekesbourne Lane, A257 High Street, Wingham Road, Canterbury Road, B2046 High Street, Adisham Road, Station Road, Pond Hill, Adisham Downs Road, Adisham Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Bekesbourne Hill, Bekesbourne, CT4 5DZ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow overhead cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Bekesbourne Hill, Bekesbourne from 20th October 2025, for up to one day between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in the vicinity of number 1 Yew Tree Cottages, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Bekesbourne Hill, Bekesbourne Lane, A257 High Street, The Hill, Canterbury Road, Littlebourne Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Charles Street & Bank Street, Herne Bay. (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING & REVERSAL OF ONE-WAY ORDER) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow pole and cabling works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Charles Street, Herne Bay from 9th October 2025, with estimated completion by 10th October 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junctions with Little Charles Street and William Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Bank Street, B2205 High Street, Beach Street, Mortimer Street and William Street.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

The One-Way Order on Bank Street will be reversed between the junctions with Charles Street and Mortimer Street, to allow southbound traffic only.

 

Cossington Road, Canterbury, CT1 3JX (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow new connection works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Cossington Road, Canterbury from 8th October 2025, with estimated completion by 10th October 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed outside number 51, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Cossington Road, Oaten Hill, B2068 Old Dover Road and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

King Street, Fordwich, CT2 0DN (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow pole testing works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of King Street, Fordwich from 6th October 2025, for up to one day, between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junctions with Fordwich Road and High Street, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via King Street, Fordwich Road, A28 Mill Road, Sturry Road, Tourtel Road, Military Road, Broad Street, Lower Bridge Street, A257 St Georges Place, Lower Chantry Lane, Longport, St Martins Hill, Littlebourne Road, Stodmarsh Road, Moat Lane, High Street, King Street and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

North Holmes Road, Canterbury, CT1 1PY (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow signing and lining works to be carried out, Kent County Council intends to make an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of North Holmes Road, Canterbury from 20th October 2025, for up to one day between the hours of 09:30 and 15:30, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between the junctions with St Martins Avenue and A257 St Martins Hill, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via North Holmes Road, Havelock Street, Monastery Street and A257 Longport.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Russell Drive, Whitstable, CT5 2RQ (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Russell Drive, Whitstable from 6th October 2025, with estimated completion by 14th November 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

The alternative route for any through traffic is via Woodman Avenue, Goodwin Avenue and vice versa.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

 

Stanley Gardens, Herne Bay, CT6 5SL (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow footway reconstruction works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on Stanley Gardens, Herne Bay from 6th October 2025, with estimated completion by 30th November 2025, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed in its entirety, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

 

Sunningdale Walk, Herne Bay, CT6 7NR (PROHIBITION OF DRIVING) TEMPORARY ORDER OCTOBER 2025

To allow utility works to be carried out, Kent County Council has made an Order prohibiting through traffic on part of Sunningdale Walk, Herne Bay from 10th October 2025, with estimated completion by 16th October 2025, between the hours of 08:00 and 18:00, or until the works have been completed.

The road will be closed between number 18 and the junction with The Fairway, to the extent indicated by signs and barriers on site.

There is no alternative route for this closure, however, residential and emergency access will be maintained at all times when it is safe to do so.

Pedestrian access will be maintained during the works.

These works are in conjunction with multi-way lights on Birkdale Gardens.
