Church Street, Baker Street, Main Street and North Street - Temporary Closure To Sewer Lining Works

What is happening?

Temporary Closure of Church Street, Baker Street, Main Street and North Street

Somerset Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, propose to make an Order prohibiting all traffic from proceeding along: Church Street - from the junction with Baker Street, westwards for a distance of 198 metres; Baker Street - from the junction with Church Street for its entirety; Main Street - from 31 metres east of the junction with Chapel Yard, eastwards for a distance of 94 metres and North Street - from 143 metres north of the junction with Foddington Road, northwards for a distance of 212 metres. A total distance of 633 metres.

This Order will enable Wessex Water to carry out phased sewer lining works. As and when signed on site.

The Order becomes effective on 9 October 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months. The works are expected to commence on 13 October 2025 and last until 24 October 2025 between the hours of 00:00 - 23:59 for a total of 12 days.

a) because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road; or b) because of the likelihood of danger to the public, or of serious damage to the road, which is not attributable to such works.
