SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL (BOROUGH OF IPSWICH)

(STOPPING, WAITING AND LOADING PROHIBITIONS AND RESTRICTIONS AND ON-STREET PARKING PLACES) (CONSOLIDATION) ORDER 2019

(BOROUGH OF IPSWICH) (BRIDGE STREET) (A137) (PROHIBITION OF WAITING AND RESTRICTION OF LOADING) (VARIATION NO.44) ORDER 202-

Suffolk County Council proposes to make the above order under Sections 1(1) and (2), 2(1) to (3), 4(2) and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which would substitute revision 4 of Map Tiles GM122 and GM123 in place of revision 3 of the same Map Tiles, into the above-named 2019 order. The effect of this would be to:

  1. Introduce ‘No waiting at any time’ and ‘No loading 8am - 9.30am and 4.30pm - 6pm’ on Bridge Street (A137), Ipswich, for a distance of 13.5 metres to cover gap at the southern tip of the island from its junction with College Street and meeting the existing restrictions on Bridge Street.

For the avoidance of doubt, the existing ‘no waiting at any time’ restriction and ‘no unloading, Monday - Saturday 8am - 9.30am and 4.30pm - 6pm’ restriction, along the portion of the northern road between Bridge Street slip road and College Street will remain unaffected and continue to be in force. For clarity, these restrictions run for 30 metres from the junction of College Street (A1022) to Bridge Street slip road.

  1. Remove ‘No waiting 8am - 6pm’ and ‘No loading 8am - 9.30am and 4.30pm - 6pm’ on:

  • Bridge Street, slip road (A137), on its west side, for 46 metres in a southerly direction from its junction with College Street

  • Bridge Street, slip road (A137), on its east side, for 56 metres in a southerly direction from its junction with College Street.

Exemptions to the waiting restrictions allow a vehicle to wait for so long as is necessary to board or alight or to load and unload for building, industrial or demolition works; for emergency services; for the maintenance of the road or its services; and for fulfilling statutory duties. There are the usual exemptions for Blue Badge holders.

Copies of the draft order, map showing the roads affected and the Council’s reasons for the proposals, may be seen with advance notice at the address below, 9am - 5pm Monday - Friday; also at Ipswich County Library, Northgate Street, Ipswich IP1 3DE, 9am - 6pm Monday; 9am - 7pm Tuesday; 9am - 6pm Wednesday-Thursday; 9am - 7pm Friday; 8.30am - 5pm Saturday; 10am - 4pm Sunday (excluding public holidays and bank holidays).

Objections and any other representations relating to these proposals, specifying the grounds on which they are made, must reach Rhea Philip (Suffolk County Council Legal Services) at the address below or at: rhea.philip@suffolk.gov.uk

no later than 13/10/2025. Please note that any such correspondence cannot be regarded as confidential and may be inspected by any interested party.
