York, Multiple Roads, Temporary Traffic Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Thursday, 25 September 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (1), (2), (3), (4) & (5). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (6) & (7).

(1) MOOR LANE, COPMANTHORPE

This Order restricts vehicles to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in that length of road on Moor Lane, Copmanthorpe between the projected south-western boundary of property no. 21 and a location 265 metres south of said projected boundary (restricted road) during the period when housing development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 26 September 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 26 March 2027 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(2) FINKLE STREET, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Finkle Street, York between its junctions with St Sampsons Square and Back Swinegate (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 29 September 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via St Sampsons Square, Church Street, Swinegate, Back Swinegate.

(3) PICCADILLY, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Piccadilly, York between the projected north-western boundary of property No. 22 (Primark) and the junction with Merchantgate (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2355hrs on Monday, 29 September 2025 and ending at 0530hrs on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Merchantgate, Tower Street, Castlegate.

(4) BEDERN, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bedern, York between its junction with Goodramgate and a location 15 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 29 September 2025 and ending at 2000hrs on Friday, 03 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Goodramgate, Aldwark, St Andrewgate.

(5) YORK ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, HAXBY

This Order prohibits vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road at York Road Level Crossing, Haxby (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2335hrs on Wednesday, 01 October 2025 and ending at 0555hrs on Thursday, 02 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Haxby Road, York Road, The Village, Mill Lane, Wigginton Road, A1237.

(6) WESTFIELD ROAD, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Westfield Road, Haxby between its junctions with The Village & Greenshaw Drive (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0915hrs on Monday, 06 October 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Tuesday, 07 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the road will only be closed between 0915hrs and 1600hrs on both days of the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Greenshaw Drive, Holly Tree Lane.

(7) COPPERGATE, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Coppergate, York between its junctions with Piccadilly and Castlegate (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 06 October 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Thursday, 09 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, all on-street parking will be suspended on both sides of Piccadilly between its junctions with Merchantgate and Dennis Street for the works period (restricted road). An alternative route for diverted motorised vehicles will be signed during the works period via Piccadilly, Fawcett Street, Tower Street. A diversion route for cyclists will also be signed for the duration of the works.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access nor will they prohibit access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
