Castle Way, Temporary Prohibition Of Pedestrians & Cyclists Due To Highway Works
What is happening?
CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (CASTLE WAY (FOOTWAY/CYCLETRACK), CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLISTS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable highway works to be carried out ("the Works"), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit pedestrians and cyclists from proceeding along that section of the footway/cycletrack situated on the north side of the carriageway of the A595 Castle Way, Carlisle, for a distance of approx 100 metres either side of the centre line of the access road leading to Carlisle Castle.
A suitable alternative route for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be signed and available via unrestricted footway of Castle Way and footways of West Tower Street, Finkle Street, Annetwell Street and Bridge Street (including the Bridge Street pedestrian crossing).

The Order will come into operation on 6 October 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of eighteen months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for 19 days and only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
