What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (IRISHGATE FOOTBRIDGE, CARLISLE) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to enable bridge maintenance works to be carried out ("the Works"), Cumberland Council intends to make an Order the effect of which is to prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the entire expanse of Irishgate Footbridge (including the steps).

Pedestrians should use the other existing pedestrians crossing points situated on Bridge Street and Castle Way.

The Order will come into operation on 6 October 2025 and may continue in force for a maximum duration of six months. However, please note that it is anticipated that the restriction will only be required for approx 4 months, only as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed.
