Carlisle, Temporary Prohibition Of Pedestrians Due To Damaged Bridge & Repair Works

What is happening?

CUMBERLAND COUNCIL (FOOTPATH NO. 101012 IN THE PARISH OF ARTHURET AND FOOTPATH NO. 131012 IN THE PARISH OF SOLPORT) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) (NO.2) ORDER 2025

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that because of the likelihood of danger to the public due to a damaged bridge at Shank Castle and to allow subsequent repair work to be carried out ("the Works"), Cumberland Council has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the following sections of public footpath: -

1. A 5 metre section of Public Footpath No. 101012 in the Parish of Arthuret, between Grid References: 346924 570537 and 346929 570535; and

2. A 5 metre section of Public Footpath No. 131012 in the Parish of Solport between Grid References: 346929 570535 and 346936 570534.

There is no suitable alternative route available for pedestrians. This follows an emergency notice dated 1 September 2025.

Any queries to the Countryside Access Team, The Parkhouse Building, Kingmoor Business Park, Carlisle CA6 4SJ or Highways hotline 0300 373 3736 or via the Cumberland Council website. The Order will come into operation on 22 September 2025 and may continue in force for a period of up to six months from that date, as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed. It is anticipated that it will be required for the full six months.
