What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDERS 2025 (NORWICH)
Road Traffic Regulation Act, 1984
Norfolk County Council in exercise of its powers under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, hereby give notice that:
i) THEY PROPOSE TO MAKE Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:
BARRETT ROAD – from its junction with Martineau Lane to its junction with Long John Hill to facilitate remedial works between 06:00 and 18:00 on 27th September 2025 (may continue until 8th November 2025). Alternative route is via: Martineau Lane, Bracondale, Queens Road, St Stephens Road, Ipswich Road, Lakenham Road and vice versa. The works promoter is Anglian Water.
BRITANNIA ROAD – from 50m north of its junction with Plumstead Road for 30m northwards to facilitate communication pipe repair works from 30th September to 6th October 2025 (may continue until 17th November 2025). Alternative route is via: Britannia Road, Gurney Road, Kett’s Hill. The works promoter is Anglian Water.
COLEGATE – Colegate (northside of the carriageway) from its junction with St Georges Street to its junction with Calvert Street to facilitate new gas connection works, traffic (constituting any class of vehicle) over the Road shall be temporarily prohibited to park, stop, load, and/or unload from 30th September to 2nd October 2025 (may continue until 13th November 2025). Alternative route is via: N/A. The works promoter is Cadent.
COW HILL – from its junction with Upper St Giles Street for 45m northwards to facilitate underground structure works between 09:30 and 15:30 on 29th September 2025 (may continue until 10th November 2025). Alternative route is via: Cow Hill, Pottergate, Ten Bell Lane, St Benedicts Street, Charing Cross, Duke Street, St Crispins Road, Barn Road, Grapes Hill, Cleveland Road, Upper St Giles Street. The works promoter is BT.
ST SAVIOURS LANE – from 40m east of its junction with Magdalen Street for 32m eastwards to facilitate new electrical connection works from 29th September to 8th October 2025 (may continue until 19th November 2025). Alternative route is via: Northbound on Magdalen Street; Magdalen Street, Magpie Road, Edward Street, New Botolph Street, Pitt Street, St Crispins Road, Whitefriars and Fishergate Alternative route from Black Friars Street: Fishergate, Eye Bridge Street and Magdalen Street. The works promoter is UK Power Networks.
ii) THEY HAVE MADE Temporary Traffic Regulation Orders in respect of the following roads:
CHAPEL FIELD NORTH – from its junction with Cleveland Road for 26m south eastwards to facilitate replacement of traffic signals between 01:00 and 05:00 on the 23rd September 2025 (may continue until 4th November 2025). Alternative route is via: Chapel Field North, Theatre Street, Rampant Horse Street, St Stephens Street, St Stephens Roundabout, Queens Road, Chapel Field Road, Grapes Hill. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
DEREHAM ROAD & WATERWORKS ROAD – 1) Dereham Road from its junction with Waterworks Road for 60m eastwards and 60m westwards and 2) Waterworks Road from its junction with Dereham Road for 25m northwards to facilitate installation of tactile paving and signage on the 21st September 2025 (may continue until 2nd November 2025). Alternative route is via: Dereham Road, Sweet Briar Road, Drayton Road, Mile Cross Road, Heigham Street, Old Palace Road. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
HAY HILL – from its junction with Millennium Plain to 5m west of its junction with Rampant Horse Street to facilitate remedial carriageway surfacing works from 22nd September to 3rd October 2025 (may continue until 14th November 2025). Alternative route is via: N/A. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
LANGLEY WALK – from 25m east of its junction with Devonshire Street for 35m eastwards to facilitate works for installation of new drainage system from 1st November to 8th October 2025 (may continue until 17th November 2025). Alternative route is via: Langley Walk, Russell Street, Devonshire Street and vice versa. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
LEOPOLD ROAD & EATON ROAD – 1) Eaton Road from 1m south of its junction with Newmarket Road to 135m west of its junction with Waverley Road and 2) Leopold Road from 10m north of its junction with Newmarket Road to 3m south of its junction with Belvedere Place to facilitate gas mains upgrade works from 22nd September to 3rd October 2025 (may continue until 14th November 2025). Alternative route is via: 1) Newmarket Road, Daniels Road, Ipswich Road, Eaton Road and vice versa. 2) Newmarket Road, Mile End Road, Newmarket Road and vice versa. The works promoter is Cadent.
MARI PITT LANE, LARKMAN LANE, DEREHAM ROAD, CLARKSON ROAD & BEECHENO ROAD –
Mari Pitt Lane from its junction with Dereham Road to its junction with Knowland Grove
Larkman Lane from its junction with Dereham Road for 60m southwards
Larkman Lane from its junction with Dereham Road for 160m southwards
Dereham Road from its junction with Cadge Road to its junction with C1171 Norwich Road
Dereham Road from its junction with Clarkson Road to its junction with Cadge Road
Clarkson Road from its junction with Larkman Lane to its junction with Cadge Road
Clarkson Road from its junction with Larkman Lane to 10m westwards
Beecheno Road from its junction with Larkman Lane for 10m westwards to facilitate traffic signal upgrades and resurfacing. The Roads 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8 will be temporarily closed (except for pedestrian access). Traffic over Road 4 will be subject to the imposition of a 20mph speed limit and Road 5 will be subject to the temporary suspension of the bus lane and Road 6 shall be temporarily subject to a 7.5 tonne weight restriction. NB: The following roads are anticipated to be closed/restricted on the following dates: 1) and 2) are anticipated to be closed from 29th September to 22nd November 2025, 3), 7) and 8) are anticipated to be closed between 19:00 on 2nd November and 06:00 on 3rd November; 19:00 on 9th November and 06:00 on 10th November; 19:00 on 16th November and 06:00 on 17th November; 19:00 on 23rd November and 06:00 on 24th November; 19:00 on 30th November and 06:00 on 1st December 2025.
and 6) is anticipated to be from 29th September to 23rd November 2025 whilst signs indicate the restrictions are in place (may continue until 1st June 2026). Alternative routes are via:
Dereham Road, Dereham Road/Sweet Briar Road Roundabout, Sweet Briar Road, Hellesdon Hall Road, Hellesdon Road vice versa.
Dereham Road, Dereham Road/Sweet Briar Road Roundabout, Guardian Road, Bowthorpe Road, Earlham Green Lane, Larkman Lane and vice versa.
Dereham Road, Dereham Road/Sweet Briar Road Roundabout, Guardian Road, Bowthorpe Road, Cadge Road and Larkman Road. Alternative route to Larkman Lane is via – Clarkson Road, Mound Road and Larkman Lane.
Alternative route to Larkman Lane is via: Beecheno Road, Gilbard Road, Earlham Road, Farrow Road and Larkman Lane. Alternative route to Road 5 via: Beecheno Road, Gilbard Road, Earlham Road, Farrow Road, Earlham Green Lane, Bowthorpe Road, Guardian Road, Dereham Road/Sweet Briar Road Roundabout and vice versa. The works promoter is Norfolk County Council.
During the works period traffic over the Roads will be prohibited the use by vehicles of the type specified (or all vehicles), in the event of that stated on the new start date of the works as displayed on site in advance. When an Order is for a reason other than works it is because the road is being used for a public or serious damage to the road/footpath. Anticipated dates are provided and the Orders may continue until the exact date where necessary or required. The Order shall come into effect on the date on the actual date of the removal of the prohibition/restriction where specified and for the duration of the works and may be extended with the written approval of the Secretary of State. Exemptions are provided in the Order to permit pedestrian access, emergency vehicles and works access and the use of footpaths, cycle paths, bridleways, restricted byways and byways open to all traffic.
Any person who breaches a restriction under the above Orders will be subject to prosecution and may be liable to a fine on conviction and/or endorsement or contravention.
