Definitive map modification order 2019
On 17 July 2025 an Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs confirmed the above-named Order with modifications under Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, and which takes effect on that date.
The effect of the order, confirmed with modifications, is to modify the Definitive Map and Statement for Chichester by:(i) the addition of a restricted byway commencing from east of Binsted Church (grid reference 498263, 106033) having a width of 4M and running in an easterly direction for 280M to the beginning of Footpath 342 (grid reference 498515, 106143); and (ii) the addition of a bridleway commencing from the upgraded Footpath 342 (grid reference 498941, 106181) having a minimum width of 5M running in an easterly direction for 160M to the edge of the woods (grid reference 499070, 106189) and travelling in a north easterly direction for 115M where it re-joins the upgraded Footpath 342 (grid reference 499178, 106231); and (iii) the upgrade of part of Footpath 342 to a bridleway from its commencement at grid reference 498515, 106143 to Priory Lane. A copy of the Order and the Order Plan may be seen free of charge at Legal Services, WSCC, County Hall, Chichester, PO19 1RQ and at Chichester District Council during opening hours.
A copy of the Order and Plan may be purchased for £5.00 from Legal Services, County Hall.
If any person aggrieved by the Order desires to question its validity, or that of any provision contained in it, on the grounds that it is not within the powers of Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, or that any of the requirements of Schedule 15 of the Act have not been complied with in relation to it, they may, under paragraph 12 (i) of Schedule 15 to the Act, within 42 days from 26 September 2025 make an application to the High Court.
