TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that National Highways Limited intends to make an Order on the M1 Motorway and the A405 Trunk Road, in the County of Hertfordshire, under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 because works are proposed to be executed on the road.

The effect of the Order would be to authorise: -

  1. the phased overnight closure of –

    a) the slip road leading from the northbound carriageway of the M1 at Junction 6 (A405);

    b) Chequers Lane at junction with the northbound carriageway of the A405; and

    c) the gap being the right hand turn through the central reservation from the northbound carriageway of the A405 130 metres north of the centreline of the M1 southbound carriageway overbridge; and

  2. the 24-hour closure of all the bus stop area adjacent to the southbound carriageway of the A405 between points 353 Metres and 433 Metres south-west of the centreline of Old Watford Road.

    These measures would be in the interests of road safety while contractors undertake traffic signal replacement, resurfacing, and all associated works.

    It is expected that the work would last for approximately 3 months starting on or after Monday 13th October 2025. The overnight closures would take place between 20:00 and 06:00 hours (maximum periods);

    The Order would come into force on 11th October 2025 and have a maximum duration of eighteen months, ceasing when the works are complete.

    Traffic affected by the slip closure would be diverted northbound on the M1 to Junction 8 (A414) and return. Traffic affected by the closure of Chequers Lane would be diverted using the A405, High Elm Lane, Horseshoe Lane, and Woodside Road. Traffic affected by the closure of the gap would be diverted northbound on the A405 to M25 Junction 21A and return.

    The temporary closures and diversion routes would be clearly indicated by traffic signs when they are in operation during the works period.
