High Street, Temporary Road Closure Due To Bridge Maintenance

What is happening?

SOUTHEND-ON-SEA CITY COUNCIL

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 - Section 14(1) Temporary Prohibition Of Traffic, Parking, Stopping, Waiting, Loading And Unloading (TTO25-25-27) Order 2025 (High Street, Leigh-On-Sea (Under Belton Bridge)

Notice is hereby given that Southend-on-Sea City Council has proposed to make the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.

The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from stopping, waiting, loading, unloading and parking on High Street, Leigh on Sea.

The closure is scheduled to commence on 27th September 2025 or where appropriate signs are showing and weather permitting.

The alternative route will be via Belton Gardens, Belton Way East, Two Tree Island, High Street and vice versa.

The Order will come into effect on 27th September 2025; however this Order may continue in force for a maximum of 18 months to allow for remedial work or delays.

The closure is required for the safety of the public and workforce whilst bridge maintenance is carried out.

Access for emergency vehicles, residents and pedestrians will be maintained at all times during the closure.

The prohibitions or restrictions will apply only during such time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs prescribed by the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction/prohibition imposed by this Notice may be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice and removed under the provisions of the Traffic Management Act 2004.
