THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (CLOSURE OF GRAY ROAD AND PROHIBITION OF RIGHT-HAND TURN SUNDERLAND) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to temporarily (i) prohibit all vehicles along Gray Road from its junction with Ryhope Road to the access / egress of Hammerton Hall and (ii) prohibit right-hand turns from Ryhope Road onto Gray Road and vice versa. The Order is required to facilitate gas main repair works on or near the road. The Order will come into operation on 17th November 2025. The maximum duration of the closure under the Order will be 18 months, however it is estimated the closure will only be for approximately 31 days from the commencement of the works. All vehicles will be prohibited from the road described at (i) above (except vehicles involved in the works) until the works are completed. Vehicular access for affected residents will be maintained throughout the closure at (i) above where possible. The prohibitions at (i) and (ii) above will be in place at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. A diversion will be provided via the adjacent highway network. Dated 25th September 2025 Patrick Melia OBE, Chief Executive, Sunderland City Council, City Hall, Plater Way, Sunderland SR1 3AA
