NOTICE OF PROPOSAL
THE BOROUGH OF STEVENAGE
(KING GEORGE V PLAYING FIELDS CAR PARK) (OFF-STREET PARKING PLACES) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Stevenage Borough Council, acting as agents for the Hertfordshire County Council and after consultation with the Chief Officer of Police and with the traffic commissioner and senior traffic commissioner, proposes to make the above-named Order under Sections 32–35C, 46 and 46A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
This order is proposed in order to relieve and prevent the congestion of traffic by imposing charges for parking and a maximum period of stay, encouraging increased turnover of parking.
The order will also provide for the possibility of parking bays within the car park being reserved for disabled drivers, motorcycles, electric vehicle charging, and loading/unloading, so that these can be provided for to improve the amenity of the area.
The effect of The Borough of Stevenage (King George V Playing Fields Car Park) (Off-Street Parking Places) Order 2025 is that Monday to Saturday (except Bank Holidays) to limit parking to five hours, allowing free parking for up to three hours but charging £1.80 to park for four hours and £4.90 to park for five hours. Payment is to be made either through a payment machine in the car park or via a telephone payment system. The order also includes specific rules to ensure that only the relevant vehicles use disabled bays, motorcycle bays, electric vehicle charging bays, and loading bays should the council decide to introduce them.
Details of these proposals are set out in the draft Order, which, together with a plan and a statement of reasons for proposing to make the Order, can be inspected during normal opening hours at the Council’s offices in Daneshill House. Details are also published on the Council’s web site at https://www.stevenage.gov.uk/parking/traffic-orders/proposed-traffic-orders/
