What is happening?

Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984

The A1 GLA Road (Great North Way, London Borough of Barnet) (Temporary Prohibition of Traffic and Stopping) Order 2025

  1. Transport for London hereby gives notice that it has made the above-named Traffic Order under section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 for the purpose specified in paragraph 2. The effect of the Order is summarised in paragraph 3.

  2. The purpose of the Order is to enable wall retaining works to take place at the M1 Junction 2 Slip Roads.

  3. The effect of the Order will be to prohibit any vehicle from:

    (i) entering or proceeding on the south–eastbound carriageway of the A1 Great North Way between its junctions with Watford Way and M1 Junction 2 Off Slip Road;

    (ii) entering or proceeding on the north–westbound carriageway of Great North Way between its junctions with the B552 Parson Street and Watford Way;

    (iii) proceeding on the northern arm of Five Ways Corner Roundabout connecting the northbound carriageway of the A41 Watford Way with the south–eastbound carriageway of the A1 Great North Way and the southbound carriageway of the A41 Watford Way;

    (iv) stopping on the southbound carriageway of Watford Way between its junctions with Tithe Close and Page Street.

Works will be phased such that some restrictions will apply only at certain times.

The Order will be effective between 20th September 2025 and 11th October 2025 each night from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM or when the works have been completed whichever is the sooner. The prohibition will apply only during such times and to such extent as shall from time to time be indicated by traffic signs.

  1. The prohibitions will not apply in respect of:

    (i) any vehicle being used for the purposes of those works or for fire brigade, ambulance or police purposes;

    (ii) anything done with the permission or at the direction of a police constable in uniform or a person authorised by Transport for London.

    1. At such times as the prohibitions are in force alternative routes will be indicated by traffic signs: (For A1 north–westbound) via Parsons Street, Finchley Lane, Great North Way, North Circular Road north–eastbound, Unnamed Off Slip Road connecting A406 North Circular Road to High Road, High Road, Unnamed On slip Road connecting High Road to A406 North Circular Road south–westbound, North Circular Road to normal route of travel. (For A1 south–eastbound) via Watford Way, Hendon Way and North Circular Road to normal route of travel.
