Cumbria, Temporary Pedestrian Prohibition On Public Footpaths
What is happening?
WESTMORLAND AND FURNESS COUNCIL (FOOTPATH NOS. 509009 & 509023 IN THE PARISH OF CASTERTON) (TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS) ORDER 2025
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that to ensure the safety of the public due to a damaged culvert, Westmorland and Furness Council has made an Order the effect of which is to prohibit pedestrians from proceeding along the following routes in the parish of Casterton:
an approx. 9 metre section of public footpath No 509009 between grid references: 362401, 479700 and 362403, 479692
an approx. 13 metre section of public footpath No 509023 between grid references: 362403, 479697 and 362416, 479696
There is no suitable alternative route available for pedestrians.
This follows emergency notices dated 8 August 2025 and 29 August 2025.
The Order will come into operation on 19 September 2025 as and when the appropriate traffic signs are displayed and may continue in force for a period of up to six months or until the footpaths are made safe, whichever is sooner.
