Consett, Temporary Road Closures and Traffic Restrictions Due To Resurfacing Works

What is happening?

(B6322 Victoria Street, Bertha Street, Parliament Street North, Newmarket Street & Church Street, Consett)

(Temporary Road Closure, Prohibition of Right Turn and Prohibition of Driving) Order 2025

The Council proposes to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following lengths of road (and any abutting junctions) in the manner described.

Road Closures: Victoria Street: A 155 metre length from the junction with B6322 Victoria Road/Church Street extending westerly to the junction with Spencer Street; Bertha Street: A 96 metre length from junction with Victoria Street extending northwards to the junction with B6322 Park Road and Parliament Street North A 21 metre length from the junction with Victoria Street extending southwards to the rear entrance to Consett Police Station.

Prohibition of Right Turn: From turning right from the junction of Newmarket Street onto Victoria Street.

Prohibition of Driving: From proceeding in the left lane in a northerly direction on Church Street (dedicated to turn left onto Victoria Street) to enable carriageway resurfacing works to be undertaken. Throughout the period of the closure, a diversion will be available from the west side of the closure in a northerly direction on Spencer Street, then east on Park Road then south on Newmarket Street to the eastern end of the closure and vice versa, or from the east side of the closure south on Church Street, then west on Parliament Street then north on Spencer Street, to western end of closure and vice versa.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The proposed works are to commence on Monday 6/10/2025 for 6 days (between 7am–7pm) then a further day on Monday 13/10/2025 (between 7am–7pm). On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
