Houghton Feast Celebration - Various Temporary Traffic Regulations
What is happening?
THE CITY OF SUNDERLAND (HOUGHTON FEAST CELEBRATION) TEMPORARY TRAFFIC REGULATION ORDER 2025
Sunderland City Council gives notice that it made an Order on 17th September 2025 under Section 16A of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended), and with the consent of the Secretary of State under 16B of that Act, to facilitate the holding of a relevant event, namely the Houghton Feast Celebration (‘the Event’). The Council is satisfied that it is not reasonably practicable for the Event to be held otherwise than on a road. The effect of the Order will be to (i) Prohibit vehicles along the roads in Schedule 1 on 3rd October 2025 between 16:30pm and 22:30pm except for emergency service vehicles attending an emergency call and vehicles involved in the Event. (ii) Prohibit vehicles waiting and loading/unloading at any time along the roads in Schedule 2 on 3rd October 2025 between 00:01am and 23:59pm. (iii)Prohibit vehicles along the roads in Schedule 3 on 6th October 2025 between the 15:30pm and 20:30pm, and (iv)Prohibit vehicles waiting and loading/unloading at any time along the roads in Schedule 4 on 6th October 2025 between 00:01am and 23:59pm. The Order shall come into force at 00.01am on Friday 3rd October 2025 and shall cease at 23:59pm on Monday 6th October 2025. The prohibitions and restrictions shall only apply at such times and to such extent as may from time to time be indicated by the display of traffic signs. There will be some exemptions to the prohibitions and restrictions for emergency service vehicles on emergency call and vehicles involved with the Event as indicated above. Diversions for affected vehicles will be via adjacent highway network and a safe route for pedestrians will be maintained throughout the closures and restrictions. SCHEDULE 1 Prohibition of Driving on 3rd October 2025 between 16:30pm and 22:30pm except for emergency service vehicles attending an emergency call and vehicles involved in the Event (i) Newbottle Street between the Broadway and Wheler Street. (ii) Broadway in its entirety. During this time a diversion for affected vehicles will be via the northern section of Newbottle Street, A182 Hillside Way, the A182 between Lake Interchange and Dairy Lane Interchange and A1052 Dairy Lane and vice versa. SCHEDULE 2 Prohibition of waiting and loading/unloading at any time on 3rd October 2025 between 00:01am and 23:59pm (i) Dairy Lane from its junction with A1052 to its northern extent. (ii) Newbottle Street between the Broadway and Station Road. (iii) Broadway in its entirety. SCHEDULE 3 Prohibition of Driving on 6th October 2025 between the 15:30pm and 20:30pm (i) Durham Road between Gillas Lane West and its northern extent immediately south of the A690 westbound entry slip. (ii) A690 westbound entry slip leading from Hetton Road in its entirety. (iii) Dairy Lane between A690 and Wallace Street. (iv) Dairy Lane between A1052 and Broadway. SCHEDULE 4 Prohibition of waiting and loading/unloading at any time on 6th October 2025 between 00:01am and 23:59pm (i) Wallace Street, Dixon Road, in their entirety. (ii) Durham Road between Gillas Lane and its northern extent immediately south of the A690 westbound entry slip. (iii) A1052 Dairy Lane between A690 and Wallace Street. (iv) Lister Close from Mill Hill for 30 metres. (v) Rotherham Close from Mill Hill for 30 metres. (vi) Mill Hill from Durham Road to a point 30 metres south of Rotherham Close. (vii) A690 between B1284 and A182, including entry and exit slips. (viii) Hetton Road between A690 westbound entry slip and Burns Avenue South.
