York, Multiple Roads, Temporary Restrictions Due To Various Works

What is happening?

TEMPORARY TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS

Notice is hereby given that City of York Council (the Council), in exercise of powers under Sections 14(1) & 15(8) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (the Act), made an order on Tuesday, 16 September 2025 in respect of the location numbered (1). Additionally, the Council made an order on Thursday, 18 September 2025 in respect of the locations numbered (2), (3), (4), (5), (6), (7). Furthermore, the Council, not less than 7 days from the publication of this Notice, intends to make an Order under Section 14(1) of the Act in respect of the locations numbered (8), (9), (10), (11), (12) & (13).

(1) PROW 28/7/10 (CONTINUATION), OSBALDWICK

This Order prohibits pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of public right of way on PROW 28/7/10, Osbaldwick between locations 540 metres and 570 metres north of its junction with Outgang Lane (closed public right of way) due to danger arising from an unsafe bridge thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Thursday, 18 September 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 27 February 2026 (danger period) or at a time when the danger has been remedied whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure public safety. This Order continues the temporary road closure Notice which had an end date of 2359hrs on Wednesday, 17 September 2025.

(2) CHARLTON STREET, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Charlton Street, York between its junctions with Bishopthorpe Road and Fenwick Street (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 22 September 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Friday, 26 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will not be signed during the works period. Access will be maintained for residents and emergency services.

(3) SHERIFF HUTTON ROAD, STRENSALL

This Order restricts vehicles to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in that length of road on Sheriff Hutton Road, Strensall between its junction with Fossview Close and a location 45 metres north of its junction with New Road (restricted road) during the period when water supply works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 22 September 2025 and ending at 0800hrs on Friday, 26 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(4) MAIN STREET, WHELDRAKE

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Main Street, Wheldrake between its junctions with Millfield Industrial Estate and Millfield Court (closed road) during the period when highway development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 1900hrs on Monday, 22 September 2025 and ending at 2300hrs on Sunday, 28 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Church Lane, Church Lane To The Park, Road From Thorganby To County Boundary; Main Street, Thorganby; Road From Thorganby Lodge To Woodhouse Road; Bonby Lane; York Road; Wheldrake Lane.

(5) KINGS SQUARE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Kings Square, York between its junction with Goodramgate and a location 15 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when sewer maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 22 September 2025 and ending at 1800hrs on Monday, 13 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. Additionally, the ‘ONE WAY’ direction of traffic flow in Colliergate and Kings Square are suspended during the period of physical closure to allow two-way traffic flow in the said roads. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Church Street, Parliament Street, Pavement.

(6) SHIRLEY AVENUE, YORK

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Shirley Avenue, York between its junctions with Wheatlands Grove and Boroughbridge Road (closed road) during the period when footway reconstruction works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0730hrs on Monday, 22 September 2025 and ending at 1600hrs on Friday, 17 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. It is envisaged that the works will take place in three separate phases during the works period. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Wheatlands Grove, Ouseburn Avenue, Boroughbridge Road.

(7) HESSAY LEVEL CROSSING, HESSAY

This Order prohibits vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Hessay Level Crossing, New Road, Hessay (closed road) during the period when railway works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2350hrs on Thursday, 25 September 2025 and ending at 0625hrs on Friday, 26 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Main Street, Atterwith Lane, Marston Lane & A59.

(8) MOOR LANE, COPMANTHORPE

This Order will restrict vehicles to a 30 miles per hour (mph) speed limit in that length of road on Moor Lane, Copmanthorpe between the projected south-western boundary of property no. 21 and a location 265 metres south of said projected boundary (restricted road) during the period when housing development works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0001hrs on Friday, 26 September 2025 and ending at 2359hrs on Friday, 26 March 2027 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely.

(9) FINKLE STREET, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Finkle Street, York between its junctions with St Sampsons Square and Back Swinegate (closed road) during the period when gas mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 29 September 2025 and ending at 1700hrs on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via St Sampsons Square, Church Street, Swinegate, Back Swinegate.

(10) PICCADILLY, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Piccadilly, York between the projected north-western boundary of property No. 22 (Primark) and the junction with Merchantgate (closed road) during the period when crane works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2355hrs on Monday, 29 September 2025 and ending at 0530hrs on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Piccadilly, Tower Street, Castlegate, Coppergate, Pavement, Stonebow, Peasholme Green.

(11) BEDERN, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on Bedern, York between its junction with Goodramgate and a location 15 metres south-east of said junction (closed road) during the period when water mains works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 0800hrs on Monday, 29 September 2025 and ending at 2000hrs on Friday, 03 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Goodramgate, Aldwark, St Andrewgate.

(12) NORTH LANE, HUNTINGTON, YORK

This Order will prohibit vehicles from proceeding and waiting in that length of road on North Lane, Huntington, York between its junction with A64 (Malton Road) and a location 30 metres north-west of said junction (closed road) during the period when highway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2100hrs on Tuesday, 30 September 2025 and ending at 0500hrs on Wednesday, 01 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via A1237, A64. Access for emergency vehicles and resident’s vehicles will be maintained throughout the works.

(13) YORK ROAD LEVEL CROSSING, HAXBY

This Order will prohibit vehicles & pedestrians from proceeding and waiting in that length of road at York Road Level Crossing, York (closed road) during the period when railway maintenance works are being undertaken thereon, commencing at 2335hrs on Wednesday, 01 October 2025 and ending at 0515hrs on Thursday, 02 October 2025 (works period) or at a time when the works have been completed whichever is the earlier. This is to ensure that the said works can be carried out safely. An alternative route for diverted vehicles will be signed during the works period via Haxby Road, York Road, The Village, Mill Lane, Wiggington Road, A1237.

The above temporary Orders will not prohibit works or emergency access by emergency services. Right of access to premises provided that access is not prevented by on-going works or safety concerns. Traffic signs/barriers will indicate the extent of the prohibitions/restrictions.
