What is happening?
NORTH YORK MOORS NATIONAL PARK AUTHORITY
(TEMPORARY PROHIBITION OF PEDESTRIANS)
Public Footpaths 35 (part of) & 200 Hartoft (Hartoft Rigg & Russell’s Wood) (NYC path refs: 25.121/35 & 25.121/200)
Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 – Section 14(1) (as amended)
The North York Moors National Park Authority intends to make an order, not less than 7 days from the date of this notice, the effect of which is to make the following closure in the in the parish of Hartoft in the county of North Yorkshire:
Public Footpath 35 Hartoft (part of): (A-B-C)
No pedestrian shall proceed along this footpath commencing at Grid Reference SE 7406 9573 (Point A – junction with the U3453 Hancow Road) and proceeding along the boundary between Hartoft Rigg & Russell’s Wood in a generally north-easterly direction for 228 metres to Grid Reference SE 7428 9581 (Point B – junction with Public Footpath 200 Hartoft) and then continuing in the same direction for a further 520 metres to Grid Reference SE 7477 9600 (Point C). A total distance of 748 metres.
Public Footpath 200 Hartoft: (D-B)
No pedestrian shall proceed along this footpath commencing at Grid Reference SE 7410 9563 (Point D – junction with the U3453 Hancow Road) and proceeding across Hartoft Rigg in a generally north-easterly direction for 260 metres to Grid Reference SE 7428 9581 (Point B – junction with Public Footpath 35 Hartoft). A total distance of 260 metres.
Alternative Route: (E-F-C)
Pedestrians can proceed along this route commencing at Grid Reference SE 7403 9593 (Point E – vehicle entrance to Russell’s Wood) and proceeding in a generally easterly direction for 728 metres to Grid Reference SE 7472 9611 (Point F) and then it turns to proceed in a generally southerly direction for 120 metres to the edge of the wood at a junction with Public Footpath 35 Hartoft at Grid Reference SE 7477 9600 (Point C). A total distance of 848 metres.
The Order is necessary to allow for peat restoration and path improvement works.
The closure takes effect from 1 September 2025 and will be put into effect by means of the erection of notices on site.
