Durham, Temporary Road & Byway Closures Due To Surface Protection & Settlement Recovery
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham
(Unclassified Road 32.3 Doctor’s Gate, Unclassified 33.6 The Grove and Restricted Byway Numbers 6 and 47 Lands common to Hamsterley, South Bedburn & Lynesack & Softley and 166 Wolsingham Parish, Hamsterley) (Temporary Road and Restricted Byway Closure) Order 2025
The above-named Order made by the Council on 14/3/2025, under section 14 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, and which became operational on 15/3/2025 has been continued in force from 15/9/2025, as approved by the Secretary of State for Transport, until 14/9/2027 or until completion of the works, whichever is the earlier. The effect of the Order is to temporarily prohibit all vehicular traffic and horse drawn vehicles from proceeding on the following lengths of road and Restricted Byway:–
Road Closures
Unc 32.3 – a 2240 metre length from 50 metres south of Blackburn Cottage Barn and extending southwards, and a 545 metre length from The Grove extending to north of the lane north of Eudenbeck
Unc 33.6 – a 1195 metre length extending north from Windy Bank Road.
Restricted Byway Closures
Restricted Byway 47 Lands common to Hamsterley, South Bedburn & Lynesack & Softley – a 1045 metre length between Shull Bank and Restricted Byway 6
Restricted Byway 6 Lands common to Hamsterley, South Bedburn & Lynesack & Softley – a 2155 metre length east of Doctors Gate and to Restricted Byway 47 and a 315 metre west of Doctors Gate to Restricted Byway 166
Restricted Byway 166 Wolsingham Parish – a 3000 metre length between Restricted Byway 6 above and Restricted Byway 7 Wolsingham to protect the surface of the unclassified roads and restricted byway and allow a period of Settlement and recovery. No alternative routes will be signposted to affected traffic during the closure period.
