Clarence Esplanade - Temporary Road Closure
What is happening?

Portsmouth City Council (Clarence Esplanade) (Temporary Road Closure) (Temporary Prohibition of Loading and Waiting) (No.157) Order 2025
Notice is hereby given that Portsmouth City Council intends to make the above Order under Section 14(1)(a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended by the Road Traffic (Temporary Restrictions) Act 1991.
The Order comes into operation from 1st October 2025 and the effect will be as follows:
A) TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURE AND PROHIBITION OF LOADING AND WAITING
CLARENCE ESPLANADE
From its junction with The Dell to its junction with South Parade.
B) REASON FOR THE ORDER
To facilitate sea defence works.
C) DURATION OF THE ORDER
From 1st October 2025 to 28th February 2026 or completion of the works, whichever is sooner. Notwithstanding the above, traffic management will facilitate the Great South Run junior races on Saturday 18th October 2025 and no works will take place during the event.
D) DIVERSION
Vehicles will be diverted from Clarence Esplanade, The Dell, South Parade.
Pedestrian access will be maintained around the works.
Cycles to follow vehicle diversion or dismount and follow pedestrian diversion around the works.
