What is happening?
THE BOROUGH OF LUTON
(VARIOUS ROADS)
(TEMPORARY ROAD CLOSURES) (No.38) ORDER 2025
NOTICE is hereby given that Luton Borough Council, the Highway Authority for the said Borough, intends to make the above Order under the relevant provisions of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (as amended).
The Order will come into operation on 13th October 2025 for a period of 18 months or when the proposed works have been completed, whichever is the earlier. Specific dates and times will be signed locally. The Order will therefore be in operation during such date and time and to such extent as indicated by traffic signs, barriers or cones.
The effect of the Order will allow the Council to close to vehicular traffic the following roads and lengths of roads:
Dudley Street from its junction with Wenlock Street to its junction with Midland Road. Diversion route via Midland Road, Burr Street, Hitchin Road, Charles Street, High Town Road, Havelock Road, Wenlock Street. Anticipated date and times of closure 13th October 2025, 8am to 6pm.
Bury Park Road The Whole Road. Diversion route via Dunstable Road, Telford Way, New Bedford Road, Cromwell Road. Alternatively, via Biscot Road, Lansdown Road, New Bedford Road, Telford Way, Dunstable Road. Alternatively, via Dunstable Road, Telford Way, Crescent Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 13th August 2025, 8pm to 5am.
Abingdon Road The Whole Road. Diversion route via Lime Avenue, Faringdon Road. Alternatively, via Faringdon Road, Calnwood Road, Lewsey Road, Lime Avenue. Anticipated date and times of closure 14th October 2025, 8am to 6pm.
St Bernards Close The Whole Road. No diversion available. Anticipated date and times of closure 16th October 2025, 8am to 6pm.
Dunstable Road from its junction with Arundel Road to its junction with Kingsway. Diversion route via Dunstable Road, Chaul End Lane, Hatters Way, Dunstable Road, Birch Link. For Kingsway access, diversion via Dallow Road, then join diversion route. Anticipated date and times of closure 17th October 2025, 8pm to 5am.
Barton Road from its junction with Icknield Way Roundabout to its junction with Lancaster Avenue. Diversion route via New Bedford Road, Austin Road, Trinity Road, Limbury Road, Marsh Road, Bramingham Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 22nd October 2025, 8pm to 5pm.
St Margarets Avenue from its junction with Bishopscote Road to its junction with Montrose Avenue. Diversion route via Bishopscote Road, Montrose Avenue. Alternatively, via Montrose Avenue, New Bedford Road, Austin Road, Bishopscote Road. Anticipated date of closure 27th October 2025.
Marsh Road from its junction with Memorial Road to its junction with Leafield. Diversion route via Blundell Road, Trinity Road, Limbury Road, Marsh Road. Alternatively, via Waller Avenue, Dunstable Road, Oakley Road, Grange Avenue, Marsh Road. Anticipated date and times of closure 29th October 2025, 8pm to 5am.
The Order is intended to create a window for the works to be done and it is anticipated that the works will be completed over a period as described above. The purpose of the Order is to enable Volker Highways to carry out resurfacing/maintenance works to be carried out. For the period of the closure, the Order will also provide for “No Waiting and No Loading” restrictions to apply within the roads and lengths of roads closed for said works. Any vehicle deemed to be in contravention of the restrictions will be issued with a penalty charge notice and removed. This will be in force when traffic signs, barriers or cones are displayed. Access will be maintained as best as possible to properties where this may be done safely whilst such works are being carried out and diversions for traffic will be marked by signs.
