What is happening?
WEST MIDLANDS COMBINED AUTHORITY
(BIRMINGHAM EASTSIDE EXTENSION, HIGH STREET DERITEND, DIGBETH, BULL STREET, ALBERT STREET, PARK STREET, ETC.) TRAM ROUTE RELATED ROAD TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS AND PROVISIONS FOR MIDLAND METRO, INSTRUMENT 2025
NOTICE is hereby given that WEST MIDLANDS COMBINED AUTHORITY exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 44 of The Midland Metro (Birmingham Eastside Extension) Order 2020 and of all other enabling powers and being satisfied that those parts of this Order made under powers of Article 44 (1) and (2) of The Midland Metro (Birmingham Eastside Extension) Order 2020 are necessary or expedient for the purposes of, in connection with, or in consequence of the construction, maintenance or operation of the tramway and after consultation with the Birmingham City Council and the Chief Constable of the West Midlands Police, hereby make an Instrument, the effects of which will be to implement the following:-
(1) Prohibition of Waiting, Loading or Unloading at any time: On sections of Adderley Street, Albert Street, Alcester Street, Car Park Bellmouth (Opposite Chapel House Street), Chapel House Street, Corporation Street, Dale End, Digbeth (Highway and Tramway), Digbeth Court Car Park (East and West Entrance), Floodgate Street, Gibb Street, Heath Mill Lane, High Street, High Street Deritend (Highway and Tramway), Meriden Street, Milk Street, Mill Lane, Moat Lane Gyratory, Moor Street Queensway, Oxford Street, Park Street, Pedestrian Street Bellmouth (Directly opposite Adderley Street), Rea Street and Stone Yard.
(2) Prohibition of Waiting at any Time, Loading or Unloading between 7pm and 7am: On a section of High Street Deritend (Highway)
(3) Loading Bays (20 minutes max, no return within 1 hour): On sections of Albert Street, Digbeth (Highway), High Street Deritend (Highway) and Rea Street
(4) One-way Street with a Contraflow Bus Lane with exception for cycles: On a section of Corporation Street
(5) One-way Street with a Contraflow Bus Lane with exception for Taxis & Cycles: On a section of High Street Deritend (Highway)
(6) One-way Direction of Traffic Northbound: On sections of Floodgate Street and Milk Street
(7) One-way Direction of Traffic Southbound: On sections of Chapel House Street and Gibb Street
(8) One-way Bus Only Road: On a section of Albert Street
(9) Bus Lane with exception for Cycles: On a section of Park Street
(10) Two-way Bus and Tram only Road: On a section of Bull Street
(11) Tram only road: On sections of Albert Street, Digbeth & High Street Deritend (Tramway)
(12) One-way Street with a Contraflow Tram Lane: On a section of Corporation Street
(13) Turning Restrictions: On sections of Adderley Street, Albert Street, Bull Street, Corporation Street, Coventry Street, Dale End, Digbeth, Floodgate Street, Gibb Street, Green Street, Heath Mill Lane, High Street, High Street Bordesley, High Street Deritend, Meriden Street, Milk Street, Mill Lane, Moore’s Row, Moor Street Queensway, Oxford Street, Rea Street and Stone Yard.
(14) Disabled Persons Parking Places: On sections of Albert Street and Dale End
(15) Existing Pedestrian Zone alterations: On sections of Albert Street, Bull Street, Corporation Street, Dale End and Moor Street Queensway
(16) Pedestrian Street: On Digbeth & High Street Deritend (Tramway)
(17) Prohibition of Driving except Buses, Taxis, and Cycles: On a section of High Street Deritend (Highway)
(18) Prohibition of Motor Vehicles: On a section of Stone Yard
(19) Cycle Lane: On a section of Digbeth (Highway) Existing Order to be revoked entirely:
WEST MIDLANDS COMBINED AUTHORITY (BIRMINGHAM EASTSIDE EXTENSION, DIGBETH) TRAM ROUTE RELATED RESTRICTIONS AND PROVISIONS FOR MIDLAND METRO, ORDER 2024.
The Instrument, with the consent of The Council and after giving 12 weeks’ notice to the Chief Constable of the West Midlands Police, has enacted the above provisions in relation to those listed within Schedule 8 of the (Birmingham Eastside Extension) Order 2020 and will come into operation on 19th September 2025.
