What is happening?

THE SURREY COUNTY COUNCIL 

Rowland Road (D664) and Bank Buildings Road (D190) Cranleigh 

Temporary Prohibition of Traffic Order 2025 

Surrey County Council propose to make the above-mentioned Temporary Traffic Order under Section 14(1), 14(5) and 14(7) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the effect of which will be to:- 1. prohibit vehicles from entering or proceeding in that length of (a) Rowland Road (D664) Cranleigh as extends from its junction with High Street (B2128) to its junction with the rear access to 1 to 4A Rowland Road (X664); and (b) Bank Buildings Road (D190) Cranleigh as extends from its junction with Rowland Road (D664) and its junction with Onslow Mews (X11097); and 2. suspend the one way restrictions to allow them to be used as an alternative route on: (a) Bank Buildings Road (D190) between its junction with High Street (B2128) to its junction with Carlyle Road (X191); and (b) Bank Buildings Road (D190) between its junction with High Street (B2128) to its junction with Onslow Mews (XX11097). 

Alternative Route – 1. B2128 (High Street), B2127 (Ewhurst Road), St Nicolas Avenue, Parsonage Road and Rowland Road, or this route in reverse. Access for Carlyle Road and Onslow Mews will be maintained during the construction of the raised tables. 

This Order is required to enable Council to facilitate improvement works on Fountain Square and associated works. These works are anticipated to be carried out during the 18-month period of operation of this Temporary Order that commences on 3 October 2025 for 3 weeks over two phases. The first phase is expected to commence on 3 October 2025 and the second phase is expected to commence in March 2026. Advanced warning signs will be displayed and the temporary closure and one way suspension, which are anticipated to be in operation for 24-hours per day, will only operate when the relevant traffic signs are displayed. 

Any vehicle found to be obstructing the highway during these works will be removed to outside the limits of the works after all reasonable methods have been undertaken to identify and contact the vehicle’s owner. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained at all times.
