Dorset – Multiple Temporary Road Closures, Speed Limit and Parking Restrictions

What is happening?

Temporary Closure of Church Street, Upwey, Weymouth

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Church Street, Weymouth between Old School Cottage and 54 Church Street, a distance of approximately 155 metres. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 15 September 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 26 September 2025.

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out essential highway maintenance works.

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Temporary Closure of A35, Morden Park Corner

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along A35, Morden Park Corner from junction with C60 to a point approximately 2690 metres to the west (in both directions). The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 22nd September 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however, it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 17th October 2025.

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out drainage works.

[1] To implement this road closure on A35, Morden Park Corner (from junction with C60) to a point approximately 2690 metres to the west (in both directions). A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

Please note that the closures will be in operation, as and when indicated by signs on site.

Advanced warning signs will be placed on the road two weeks ahead of the closure to indicate the exact dates the closure will take place.

[2] To impose clearway and parking suspension as indicated by signs on site to prevent waiting or parking on the highway along A35, Morden Park Corner from junction with C60 to a point approximately 2690 metres to the west (in both directions). Any vehicle waiting in contravention of any restriction imposed by this Notice may be removed under the provisions of the Removal and Disposal of Vehicles Regulations 1986.

Temporary Closure of Various Roads, Piddlehinton

DORSET COUNCIL has made an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along Various Roads, Piddlehinton as listed:

[i] B3143, Piddlehinton & Piddletrenthide from the junction with B3142 Waterston Lane to the junction with Sun Lane, Piddletrenthide; [ii] London Row, Piddlehinton from the junction with B3143 Church Hill to a point approximately 850 metres north-east; [iii] Rectory Road, Piddlehinton from the junction with B3143 to the junction with West Lane; [iv] Road past European Inn, White Lackington in its entirety.

Closures [i] – [ii] will be in place from 22nd September 2025 to 3rd October 2025, Closure [iii] will be in place from 6th October 2025 to 17th October 2025 and Closure [iv] will be in place from 29th September 2025 to 10th October 2025. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users.

It will come into operation on 22nd September 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 17th October 2025. Access for residents and buses will be maintained throughout.

This Order will enable Wessex Internet with safe access to install fibre infrastructure.

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

The County of Dorset (Various Roads, Winterborne Kingston) (20mph Speed Limit)

(No. 2) Order 2025

Dorset Council has made an Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.

When the Order comes into operation on 19th September 2025 the effect of the Order will be to introduce 20mph speed limits along sections of various roads in Winterborne Kingston (a plan of the locations can be found on our website, details below).

(Experimental No. 1) Order 2025

Notice is hereby given that the Council of Dorset has made the above-mentioned Order under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended.

The Order will come into operation on 22nd September 2025 on an experimental basis and will introduce “no loading at any time” restrictions and “goods vehicles only” loading bays along sections of various roads in Weymouth. Further details can be found on our website www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/tros.

The reason for proceeding by way of an experimental order is to assess the effects of the changes before Dorset Council considers whether the provisions of the experimental Traffic Order shall continue in force indefinitely.

The Order can continue in force for a maximum of 18 months. Within a period of 6 months from the coming into operation of the Order, or within 6 months of any subsequent variation or modification to the Order coming into force, whichever may be the later, any person may object to the making of a permanent order.

DORSET COUNCIL, not less than seven days from the date of this notice to make an Order under Section 14 [1] of the Road Traffic Regulations Act 1984, as amended. All vehicles will be prohibited from proceeding along ST THOMAS ROAD, DORCHESTER, between its junction with Bridport Road and the rear access to the Sydney Arms, a distance of approximately 25 metres. The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It will come into operation on 15 September 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 19 December 2025.

This Order will enable Dorset Council to carry out upgrade to signalised junction.

A locally signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed sections.

The Order is needed in order to comply with health and safety regulations, which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users. It came into operation on 15 September 2025 and will remain in force for 18 months, however it is anticipated that the works will be completed by 19 December 2025.
