EIA ADVERTISMENT

ANNOUNCEMENT OF INTENTION NOT TO PREPARE AN ENVIRONMENTAL STATEMENT Regulation 5 of the Environmental Impact Assessment Land Drainage Improvement Works (Amended) Regulations 1999 SI 1999/1783

Cerney Wick Fish Pass

The Environment Agency gives notice that it proposes to carry out improvement works on the River Churn at Cerney Wick Gauging Station in Cerney Wick. The works are due to take place Autumn 2025 and expected to last 2 weeks.

The proposed works involve installing a cylindrical bristle fish pass on the left-hand side of the existing weir to allow year-round fish passage at this location, currently a barrier to migration.

The Environment Agency considers that the improvement works are not likely to have significant effects on the environment and does not intend to prepare an environmental statement. This decision is based on the selection criteria in Schedule 2 of the Regulations. The works are small in scale, confined entirely within the river channel, and are designed to enhance river function and improve habitat connectivity.

Although the site lies within 100 metres of a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), there will be no interaction with its features of interest due to the localised nature of the activity and use of low-impact construction methods. The works will deliver clear environmental benefits, including improved fish passage, enhanced spawning habitat, and reconnection of previously fragmented sections of the river.

Further information is available in the Environmental Report, which can be viewed during office hours at the following address:
