Atherton Street, Tempotrary Road Closure Due To Sewer Works

What is happening?

The County Council of Durham (Atherton Street, Durham City) (Temporary Road Closure) Order 2025

The Council on 3/9/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all vehicular traffic from proceeding on the following length of road. A 19 metre length of Atherton Street, Durham City to the side of Number 34 Atherton Street to enable sewer blockage clearance works to be undertaken.

Throughout the period of closure, a diversion will be available to vehicular traffic to the opposite end of Atherton Street.

The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The closure is required from 3/9/2025 and for the duration of the works, anticipated to be 3 days. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
