Leazes Road, Temporary Footway Closure Due To Bridge Inspection Works
What is happening?
The County Council of Durham (A690 Leazes Road footway, Durham) (Temporary Footway Closure) Order 2025
The Council on 1/9/2025 made the above Order under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 as amended, to prohibit all pedestrian traffic from proceeding on the following length of footway. A 150 metre length of the southern associated footway of A690 Leazes Road between Leazes Bowl Roundabout and Walkergate junction, Durham to enable bridge inspection and remedial works to be undertaken.
An alternative route will be available to pedestrian traffic from the eastern side of the closure, via the slip road leading toward Market Place and the footway north of St Nicholas Church, leading to Walkergate, to the western side of the closure and vice versa.
The maximum duration of the Order is 18 months. The works are required for the duration of the order or until completion of the works whichever is earlier. On occasions, alternative dates for the closure may be necessary and these will be signed on site accordingly.
