What is happening?

SUFFOLK COUNTY COUNCIL (DISTRICT OF ST EDMUNDSBURY)

(Stopping, Waiting And Loading Prohibitions And Restrictions And On-Street Parking Places) (Map Based) Order 2019 (Bury St Edmunds) (Various Roads) (Prohibition Of Waiting And Loading Restrictions} (Variation No. 8) Order 2025

On the 03/09/2025 Suffolk County Council made the above order under Sections 1(1) and (2), 2(1) to (3) 4(2) and Part IV of Schedule 9 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, which would substitute revision 3 of Map Tile EC61 in place of revision 2 of the same Map Tile, into the above named 2019 order.

The effect of this would be to introduce:

'No Waiting At Any Time' on:

North side of Hospital Road (C740), Bury St Edmunds, from a point 20 metres west of the centre of the junction with Ickworth Drive, east for a total distance of 60 metres.

South side of Hospital Road (C740), Bury St Edmunds, from a point 23 metres east of the centre of Brooklands Close, east for a total distance of 50 metres.

Both sides of Ickworth Drive (U6515), Bury St Edmunds, from its junction with Hospital Road, north for a distance of 45 metres.

Both sides of Nightingale Close (U6628), Bury St Edmunds, from its junction with Ickworth Drive for 15 metres.

'No Waiting 8:00am-6:00pm Monday - Friday' on:

South Side of Ickworth Drive (U6515) Bury St Edmunds, from a point 45 metres from the junction with Hospital Road, east for a distance of 64 metres.

Exemptions to the waiting restrictions allow a vehicle to wait for so long as is necessary to board or alight or to load and unload; for building, industrial or demolition works; for the maintenance of the road or its services; for emergency services, and for fulfilling statutory duties. There are the usual exemptions for Blue Badge holders. A copy of the order and map showing the roads affected, which comes into operation on the 12/09/2025 may be seen with advance notice at the address below 9:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday; and also at: Bury St Edmunds Library, Sergeants Walk, St Andrews Street North, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 1TZ. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.30am - 5.30pm; Tuesday and Friday 8.30am - 7.30pm; Saturday 8.30am – 5:00pm; and Sunday 10:00am – 4:00pm; excluding Bank Holidays and Public Holidays. If anyone wishes to question the validity of the order or of any provision contained in it on the grounds that it is not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended, or on the grounds that any of the requirements of that Act or any instrument made under it have not been complied with in relation to the order, they may within six weeks of the date on which the order was made apply to the High Court for this purpose.
