Notice Of Modification Order Section 53 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 Definitive Map and Statement for Chichester
West Sussex County Council (Chichester No. 1: Barnham & Eastergate and Yapton (Addition of a Public Bridleway and Upgrade of Part of Footpaths 146 and 153 to a Public Bridleway and Upgrade of all of Footpath 147 to a Public Bridleway)
The above Order made on 19 August 2025 if confirmed as made, will modify the Definitive Map and Statement for the area by:
A bridleway commencing at grid reference 495685, 103555 adjacent to St Mary’s Church in Barnham & Eastergate with an initial width of approximately 10.1M and proceeding in a generally south-easterly direction along Brook Lane for 590M with a width varying between 2.3M and 4M to grid reference
495993, 103061.
A new length of bridleway commencing at grid reference 495993, 103061, turning in a south-westerly direction for 774M with a width varying between approximately 3 and 4.6M proceeding to grid reference 495312, 102700, turning in a generally south-easterly direction for approximately 350M, with
a width varying between 4.7 and 10.6M, where it meets a watercourse and footbridge at grid reference 495515, 102416, then turning in a south-easterly direction for approximately 21M and crossing the footbridge, with a width varying between approximately 1.9 and 3.1M to grid reference 495499, 102401, then continuing generally and parallel with existing FP 146 for approximately 44M to grid reference 495494, 102357, then crossing a field boundary for approximately 10M to join Footpath 146 at grid reference 495484, 102352.
A bridleway commencing from grid reference 495484, 102352 for 590M with a width varying between 2.4 and 3.4M to its southern end at grid reference 495413, 101773, where it connects to Footpath 153 at grid reference 495413, 101773 then proceeding south-westwards for approximately 83M, with a width varying between 2.7 and 9.6M to grid reference 495357, 101714, then connecting to Footpath 147 grid reference 495357, 101714 leading in a generally south-easterly direction for approximately 680M with a width varying between 2.2 and 6M to grid reference 495847, 101334.
A copy of the Order and the Order Map may be seen free of charge, by prior appointment, at the office of the Legal Services, County Hall, Chichester, PO19, 1RQ. A copy of the Order and Map may be purchased for £5.00 from Legal Services.
Any representation or objection relating to the Order must be sent in writing to the Director of Law and Assurance County Hall, Chichester, West Sussex PO19 1RQ or legal.services@westsussex.gov.uk (quote ref CC803.15806) not later than 23 October 2025. Applicants are requested to state the grounds on which it is made. Any representations or objections to the Order will be kept on a file that is open to the public.
If no representations or objections are duly made to the Order, and if any so made are withdrawn, the West Sussex County Council, instead of submitting the Order to the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural
Affairs, may itself confirm the Order. If the Order is submitted to the Secretary of State any representations or objections which have been duly made and not withdrawn, will be sent with it.
(Objections will be held on a public file and while personal details will be omitted on request, they will become publicly available if and when the Order is sent to the Secretary of State).
